Saw this thread late - went and did it. Cold and damp all the way to Lewis Pass, fine thereafter. The road from the top of Lewis Pass was spoiled with stock-truck effluent all over the road until Springs Junction. From Springs Junction over the saddle to Reefton was wet with grit all over the place. After that, dry, warm and sunny. Stopped in Jacksons for a coffee and carrot cake. Nice. Swore loudly (after the shakes had stopped) at an oncoming Hilux driver overtaking on a bend on the Taramakau who thought that my side of a blind bend was better than his. Did you know that the front wheel on a TDM will experience a bit of patter in a full-emergency stoppage? Six and a half hours from go to whoa - great day out.
