    Securing the oil filter

On the Vic Club site, this is what I found:

Wire sump plug and oil filter:
Oil filter: find a hose clamp that will fit around the oil filter and a length of lockwire, stainless steel wire or similar available from bike stores (NOTE: Lockwire is VERY handy to have around and as you learn you can start lockwiring other items that should be lockwired on a race bike). Fold wire around the clamp and clamp it to the oil filter. Tie the other end of the wire to a solid part of the engine or frame close to the filter thus preventing it from turning and coming off.

I've had a look on the CBR, and the oil filter looks very secure where it is, which from what I can tell is inside the engine. Will I still have to secure it somehow? If so, how should I do it?

Shouldnt your oil filter be down the front right hand side of the engine - just behind number 4 header. Normally you just run a hose clamp around it and then lockwire that.

Personally I've always found it a bit of a pointless rule. If the oil filter comes off or gets loose, I suspect people wont exactly be interested in where the end of the filter went as compared to where the actual oil went.

Well if people follow that "pointless" rule then the chances of that oil filter coming off in the first place are very much reduced

I think the instance that they have used there is when the oil filter is an external body that is screwed onto the engine. The cbr has an internal oil filter. Just lockwire the bolt that screws the oil filter into the sump and you will be sweet. I assume you have done the oil drain bolt aswell??

I'm about to do the sump plug at metalwork tomorrow. I'm a bit unsure of doing the same to the oil fliter bolt as its a bloody great big thing and it looks like it'll be expensive to replace if I bung it up
