    Not a great role model.

I know that being good at any sport doesn't mean you automatically become a "role model" but taking sponsor dollars does.

The one thing that is in short supply in professional sport is "sportsmanship" (not to be confused with the abundant supply of "gamesmanship")

No such thing as bad publicity.

I do agree somewhat. He shouldnt have have swore at him. Bad form. Should have used judgment to make sure he wasnt too seriously injured, then walked over and punched him in the face

Sponsors will drop an athlete like a hot brick if they get "bad" publicity and most will have a clause in the contract to that effect.

A few things wrong with this approach:
1/ It is just plain unacceptable to use violence to express your dissapointment/anger/frustration.
2/ No matter how tough you think you are eventually you will come across someone who is better at fighting than you and they will beat the shit out of you.

Its fucking easy to take the moral high ground with the benefit of hindsight. Im sure you would be pretty pissed in the same situation, as would I. Perhaps Nicky giving him a blast will make him a bit more apprehensive about doing it next time eh.

Of course. I feel the same way. There are plenty of arseholes out there, and if your going around looking for trouble, you deserve to get your head punched in. Nicky was hardly looking for trouble though was he.

Nobody was "looking" for trouble - it was an accident - throwing a tantrum when shit happens is juvenile.
Assaulting people for any reason is just plain wrong and can never be justified. That might be why it is the first item under the misconduct heading in the MNZ Code of Conduct. If someone is consistently riding in a dangerous manner then there are procedures for dealing with that.

Yup, fair enough. Idealistically this should be the case, but there will be exceptions. I thought Nickys tantrum was pretty funny, but hey, agree to disagree

It is extremely difficult to be level-headed when you are taken out in a motorcycle race. All reasoning faculties are turned off when the light goes green, for starters. Was taken out 4 times the first year I did the nationals and struggling to to see the justice in the sport by the end of the season.
Tip: never punch anyone with a helmet on .

Yeah, rules and manuals are great, if they are ever followed. I've seen many hand grenades come and go, usually with impunity.
