Just a totally random question for a friend of mine... what are the fines for RUC being overdue by... say... 5,000kms on a 3.5tonne vehicle?

Probably less than the fine for winding your speedo back.

    Is this a bad thing?
(It is if you are in the haulage business)
Now the rail service has been nationalised, surely freight should be encouraged in that direction.

Yep - it can work out to be bloody expensive. Best keep your RUCs up-to-date.

Diesel passenger vehicles, post-2005 are the greenest vehicles on the planet. They should be exempt RUC.

No. Even running on shitty diesel their fuel consumption figures make a lot of bikes, let alone other cars, look pretty pathetic. Burning less fuel is green, despite the fuel composition being less than adequate.

Why doesn't NZ do what the rest of the world does and just include RUC in diesel for up to say 3 tons. It would save a lot of pissing around for most users. Just stick the extra on top for heavier vehicles if they want to as a "weight tax" or summint.
And bugger the farmers - they can apply for a rebate if they want to!

Dont know about anybody else but I'm getting real pissed at the way things are going. seems like the rich are behind all these organizations and the average bugger like me is forced to pay them to keep going in life and we have no choice. Its the government, council etc how we have to pay rates on our own land else they take it from us. You can argue that its for public services but we dont use wheelie bins or any of their execuses they call reasons. council complain they have no money yet i see a new porsche parked outside. we cant win
    Thats whats up.

Is there a requirement for a non-commercial vehicle to have a working odometer?
