The over all opinion seems to be that as long as there are basic drives and differences between people, global peace is not possible. But imagine a world where we were all the same, and there was no competition for anything!! We wouldnt' be where we are today! I mean the competitiveness between work collegues drives them to invent, to grow in the market etc. THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY MOTORBIKE RACING!!!

How can you call someone who will fight to feed himself and his dependants a "greedy little wood grub"?
Maki, read your original post. You said We, so my reference to glwg was aimed at us. The 'better off' people.

There will never be world peace.
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

Not entirely possible. I think that all the worlds Nations could perhaps not be fighting at one particular point, but that is not peace. Anyone who has studied human nature knows that as humans we are in a constant state of 'war', and anyone who as studied world history knows that there are a number of states/countries that have been fighting almost non-stop for the last 1000+ years.

Even if all the Nation states and countries were at peace we still have terrorism to deal with.

IMO New Zealands defence policy is far to relaxed. It shouldn't be a walk in the park to come to our country with military force and take the place over. We should be a porcupine, not a puppy dog (think Singapore). It would seem that in the modern world the only way to secure 'peace' is to make it too much of a hassle for someone else to come and take what is yours, but then people are never satisfied to only work with what they already have so there will always be tension and competition for resources. Going forward over the next 50 years things are going to change dramatically in the world and resources that we have previously taken for granted in NZ are going to become sought after - simply being at the bottom of the World surrounded by ocean is not a watertight insurance policy. As long as there is religion - even just one, there would be no peace.

The one human is definitely one solution.

The only other I can think of is genetic engineering to remove the "greed" gene and you will have your global peace....

A power struggle erupts, because someone has been greedy and has taken away perceived control, resources (land etc...) which leads to conflict (or supressed conflict).

I had a long argument with a colleague of mine who thought education was the solution... I argued that through education, you simply teach someone how to better realise their greed.

This whole thing reminds me of a US radio skit I heard a while back - "What if God Smoked Cannibas"... there's a line in there talking about how God made everyone different colours for a laugh ... so they'd fight all the time...

Military would be on call for dispatching food and resources, rescue.
