I've been aware of a couple of instances recently where people have shared private details in Social Groups, which has come back to bite them.

I would recommend that Social Groups be considered as an extension of the forums in this regard, and that private and personal details are not posted for all to see. Don't let the illusion of a private venue cloud the issue of basic internet safety.

Firstly, some Social Groups are set by their owners as Public - anyone can view the content.

Secondly, Social Groups are often set with a Public Membership option - anyone can join without approval and immediately access the contents.

Thirdly, you have no assurance that everyone who is now (or may be in future) a member of the Group is trustworthy.

Being able to contact one another is always a key requirement for real-life socialising and ride activities. As far as KB is concerned, I would personally recommend that Social Group members add those members they know and trust to their "Friends" list, so that you can see each other's private contact details. That way you can keep control of your own internet safety.

As a side issue, when posting personal details in your profile, make sure that you set the privacy setting to "Friends only".
