The pain of crashing, not again!

I crashed on my Moto X bike about 18 months ago. Here goes..
I was going off a raised area, over the edge, & down a steep hill doing about 40km/hr, every thing was fine, out with my mates, lovely day, bike going fine, when the front wheel went one way and I went the other, I hit the deck stopped head first into a bank and gorse bush, all in about 1.5 metres.
I tell you that is some stop. I near dislocated my right shoulder, broke 2 ribs and did something nasty to my back, stuffed my knee.
I had all the saftey gear on, knee pads as well, chest and back protector
The immediate feeling of thinking, AIR , AIR... am I going to die... seriously came over me. There was no air in my lungs, (winded) and I couldnt suck any air in for ages, this part was the worst feeling ever.
I was the last of a bunch so my mates didnt know I had crashed, I felt real alone for a while, a nasty sensation. I crawled to my bike and hit the kill switch, then crawled of the track and just lay there for about 5 minutes, as the pain started to kick in I tried to figure out what hurt.
I just could not move much of my body at all as it all hurt.
I managed to sit up after about 5 minutes, and just tried to figure out what happened, I guess I was in shock.
After about 10 minutes no one came back so figured somehow I managed to get back to the bike and thank goodness it started first kick, good ol 2 stroke. Man I felt sick. I don't how I managed the 10min ride back to the car in 1st gear but somehow I got there.
Yes it took some time to come right, one week off work, I was all good to go again after a couple of months.

I don't know how many bikers out there actually know how bad it feels if you come of and hit something. Hey I was only doing 40km/hr but I guess it was the way I landed, it could have been worse.

My point here is as I also love road bikes.

I now feel I ride with a new awareness of what it may be like to crash and hit something going much faster. I don't want that feeling again as long as I live.
Although I ride my road bike quick I am very aware that corners and road conditions are major cause of deaths on NZ roads for motorcyclists, I see so many riders pushing the limits in these areas on public roads

Just wondering are there any others Kbkrs out there that have a more heightened awareness of what it it will feel like to crash again, and consequently ride with that little bit more care?

Hey, ive just recoverd from a nasty crash at summerx last year , been on
acc most the year. I had not broken a bone in 10years but this was the leg and yes it hurt a bit lol. Anyway bud at 37 i decided to hang up the mx helmet , but it did not last long , i love motobikes full stop so im now back on road bikes , the fear is still there yes , the speeds are higher as you said, but i love bikes, and you just have to get past the fear . The stumbling blocks along the way do make you a better/smarter rider, as you go though a few and get older you just stop taking the risks you took when you were younger and injoy the ride . Hell i said thats enough dirt bikes for me at the time, but its in the blood my crash for the record i always blamed on myself that day , i love bikes becuse i concentrate so much when riding it takes all other cares away, i forgot that that day and had to much else going on upstairs . Allways focus 100% on riding /racing when on the bike, allways!!
