Ducky shaves head for Prostate Fundraiser

The month of September is Prostate awareness month and the 25th September has been nominated as “Blue Friday”. Heres why:

Why blue? It's simple - blue is for boys!

Every year about 600 men in New Zealand die of Prostate Cancer. Fathers, sons, brothers, grandfathers. Gone! This happens because men don’t know how dangerous the disease is, they don’t talk to their doctor about it, they simply don’t do anything about it. This has to stop.

That’s why Blue September is about getting the word out about prostate cancer. If you paint your face blue, donate money to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or even tell people, you will be directly helping to lower the death rate and reduce the suffering from this disease.
    (Extract from nz.blueseptember.org)

Take some time to read up about this silent killer among men. I know you blokes are pretty sensitive about discussing this area but better informed is better warned.

So anyway…..me and some colleagues have gone “mad” and decided to participate in a “Shave Off” for donations to the cause. Local celebrities will be asked to do the actual shaving.

If you feel you would like to support this (and my madness) then please go to

    http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/Pla...rsWhangaparaoa

    to make a donation.

Be assured that ALL proceeds from the donations/sponsorship go directly to the Prostate Foundation (less a small fee for the online fundraising administration). No money is received by our company or the participants on the day from the online fundraiser.

We will also be having an auction on site and I will be maintaining the blog with updates and the list of items we will be auctioning. All items have been donated by local businesses.

Any local KBers feel free to pop along on the 25th to have a laugh at my expense.

Cheers guys/gals and if the only thing I have done is raise awareness of this subject then I am a happy Ducky!

    Cherie

Good on ya, girl. You sure, tho? You'll need a new smaller helmet. YT knows...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

My hat is off to those women that do shave their heads.Having been amongst those who had no option with having chemo,it is amazing that appear they don't care.Sure they care, but is like stop looking at me I'm not contagious.

Prostate is slowly being spoken without stigma, even 6 years ago,older(60plus)guys wouldn't say what treatment they were having when at radiation waiting room, others were fine.

I know 2 guys, one turned 80 yrs, lost his testicles(at 75yr) as side effect of type of prostate cancer, and spoke openly of being cancer free for 5 yrs.I said it was his horses revenge for gelding them, due to his life of racing horses, and farming. The other guy I met(63 now) and have huge respect of is similar with spreading the word,he wasn't embarrassed telling the side effects of pills,i.e eostrogen taken for a few years. And he still thinks(like me)there's others worse off than him/me.He said he admired those of us having chemo and radiation,he only had radiation.

So it seems I will need heaps of beanies. Thanks for the encouragement everyone - I am hoping my hair will grow back straight .

For the Wellington KBers: Our branches in Seaview, Kaiwharawhara, Paraparam and Porirua are doing similar things. So if you prefer supporting your local folk pop in and buy your blue paint and chuck a coin in the donation bucket.
