    Fewer wings over Wanaka

    http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/storie...8/1245c8a3663c

Is Sir Tim selling all of his collection?

I would have thought that there would be a Warbirds syndicate able to cobble together the necessaries to keep this Hurricane in New Zealand.

He himself never owned them, the company ... Alpine Deer Group did (as I understand it.)

And yes they are being sold. Only a few left.

The Hurricane was expected to get around $5M !!!
Bit of dosh, and buying it is only the start of the spending.

Ain't that the truth! RR Merlins aren't cheap to keep running.
For the purchase price of a good P-51, you can buy 10 L-39s!

Yeah, but you tell me an L-39 Albatros jet sounds as good as a Spitfire (or Hurricane) with an RR Merlin pulling 2800rpm....
I know which one pulls the crowds more at an airshow.....

Actually ... it is in Aussie. It was sent there to be sold. No interest (by any with money) in its purchase here ...

its a packard merlin...the merlin enabled the mustang to reach its potential, esp at altitude.

The best Allison-powered fighter was probably the Yak-3M.

SAME! In terms of aircraft, probably quite negotiable prices.
