    from what ive heard the 400s are very reliable when they are standard.

    If you get a good one that is true, but the good ones are getting harder to find. FWIW my 400 was great to race but it cost me to keep running. I often considered whether I would have been better off buying an SV, but they can go bang as well. Some would suggest that they are less "fun" as well, but I would give it a crack in a flash. I would suggest keeping an open mind and an eye out to see what comes up.
