    Mossy round 5

Final prep on fzr friday night with new tinted screen.Thank goodness for no other costs between rounds as rebuild parts are adding up for the engine rework. Thanks to sponsors Ideal Electrical Suppliers for another set tyres to take with me as current set had done two rounds already.Turned out not required due to RT front end work a couple of rounds ago. Also thanks to Motorad and Motomart for parts and service.I switched to medium front and hard rear and they are lasting alot better with the suspension work.
Early start for the drive and wait until almost lunch for qualify.
Bit nervous about running with protwins but glad that times are similar as less lapping in races.
Qualify quite well with forth overall but find out posties starting behind protwin.Leaves me on row 6 second inside.Shaun drew the short straw by being quicker and having the inside run to corner one.

Race one good launch and Shaun starts coming across at me so left it is then and around most of the protwins on the way to turn one.Slot in around 4th.Shaun comes past in the infield and hes off.Settle into good speeds and WTF bike keeps cutting out down the straights. At first though the engine had poped so back the revs down and short shifted for a while taking outside lines on corners while I worked out if I had oil loss.Kept doing it every straight so im thinking fuel problem.Lap 8 and it stopped.Pulled over in the infield and discovered the kill switch wasnt contacting.Flicked it on and off until neutral light showing and fired it up.Set out again but luck for me a red flag and results back to last lap that I had just completed and max points pre89 senior.Had one good lap without cut out of 115.9 just under PB.

Back to shed and end of day.Staying at Martin Pecks and he offers me toggle switch to repair it next day.Martin cooked Suzanne and I spaghetti bolognese that was resturant quality.Top guy.Had a good look at his gsxr1100 parts which he has enough to build many motors.Sorted through the fzr engine parts and learnt more about the internals in an hour than I had in the last forever.

Pull switch apart to find cable lube in the contacts.MY bad.Clean and reasemble.

Race two this time on qualify order watch Phils very hot well prepaired gsxr power house come from row three and gap me 20metres before turn one.Bum.
A few protwins between us takes a few laps so a few laps to catch him.Contest every corner at all angles and manage to get past mid race just to get taken on the straights. Now I know how the juniors feel.Phil was doing a great job of blocking on the infield and add to that protwins wanting the same track.Deano is awesome in the corners so not concerned when he comes through in the infield on several occasions. Not able to match his hairpin entry speed decided to leave the inside line alone as that seemed about the spot the protwins caught us(every lap).Just couldnt get through and gap enough to hold a lead for the next straight.Yellow flag out on corner one didnt help as that was the plan to get through and gap during infield.2nd place so down to last race.

Race three same story .Watch Phil smoke me to turn one.Catch up on Phil after few laps and again try out corner him.New approach required.Take the widest possible sweeper line and carry as much speed on the front straight using ripple strip on exit.brake as late as possible coming into corner sideways and go around Phil on the esses entry.Straight line the entry into hairpin and carry as much speed out as possible riding the clutch to do so.Hold the lead into higgins push as hard as possible.Having a clear run at the infield gives me faster lap times and break my PB time three times in the last three laps.115.6 consistant and the last could have been better but the first lapped protwin got into the final sweeper at the same time as I did.

Happy with first overall and opened the series points to 54 lead.

Looking forward to round 6 with new slicks and maybe more of martins cooking then the strip down and big bore kit rebuild and flat slides.

Hero cam footage on this thread of seniors and pro twin qualify and race two.

Looking forward to seeing Peter and Phil again at some point.

This weekend was the most fun I've had in quite a while. Big ups to you guys manhandling those heavy-hitting, high HP machines around the track.

Its good knowing we can get very close to each other on the track without fear of the other racers doing anything erratic. E.g. into the esses and hairpin.

Great racing Mossy and a well earned result. It was excellent to see the 2 classes racing with the different strengths in different places.

Yep phil is pretty quick. From memory think he took a 3rd in one of the F1 races at Puke last season against 20 year younger bikes.

he's doing better than expected - he's pulled the legaments and muscles in his groin... OUCH but no broken bones.... lucky.

not too sure if he will be at round 6 but he's gona try his hardest.

    I had a good weekend!!

now do I replace the 7 month old front tyre or give her one more round??
