I was sad to receive a letter from Peter Jones yesterday.
The Chatto Creek Rally is a 1000mile in 24hrs Rally held in the South Island.
Peter has been heavily involved (with helpers of course) in organisaing this run for the last 13 years. this year it will not be run.
It appears obvious to me that Peter takes the responsibility of running the rally very seriously. He is worries that with the current format that another serious or fatal accident could occur. I am certain that this decision was not taken lightly by Peter and his committee, and I applaud them for making the brave call that they have.
I still have very fond memories of the one I did in 2007. The welcome I was given and the roads I rode on still stick in my memory to this day. From Peter and his committee, the Chatto Creek tavern owners and all the fellow riders you were all a credit to the event and yourselves.
I hope we will see a return of this event in another format?
Options could be:
Specific checkpoint "windows" and opening hours?
Perhaps run the event over 2 days?
