Tyres and parts in Wellington?

Kia Ora All,

I'm new to Wellington as of 9 May. Really need a new front tyre and possibly rear. Wasn't noticeable in straight and flat Chch, but it sure is in Curvey Welly.

Can anyone direct me to a good spot to get great prices on tyres? Also, some tyre reccommendations on brands and models (from cheap to pricey) would be awesome. I ride a 90' CBR400rr. A reccommendation on a parts shop would be great too. Need some new pads soon.

There are five places in the lower hutt/ wellington area:
Wellington Motorcycles (Central Wellington)
Motorad (Central Wellington)
Motomart (Lower Hutt)
TSS Red Baron (Lower Hutt)
Richards Motorcycles (Johnsonville)

All should be able to advise you and supply price options for tyes.

The main tyre brands are Pirelli, Dunlop, Michelin, Continental, Avon and Metzler. You can't go far wrong if you stick to these brands. All have a good selection within their tyre ranges.

But tyre choice usually comes down to three things:
Price
Intended usage
Availibility in size for your bike.

For example I'm about to switch to Dunlop Roadsmarts (from qualifiers) as they are avaliable in my tyre size, I intend to ride through winter (and they have great reviews of being good in the wet) and they aren't overly pricey.

Have a chat to a couple of dealerships and see what they recommend to you. Then have a search on the web (or even on Kiwibiker) to see reviews about the tyres. My first stop to check tyre prices on the web is http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/ but note that those prices don't include fitting.

I use Richard's Motorcycles in Johnsonville. He's on the corner of Moorefield / Broderick Rd. He knows bikes and will match or better anyone elses prices. Hamilton Honda have great tyre prices so call them first then quote that price to the lot down here.

Very true - forgot about them. They are in central wellington as well - next to the cricket ground.
