Yet another gear question: newby

I am coming back to bikes after ten years away, and this time time doing all legal like...

I will no be using the bike for commuting, just on weekends to get away from the miss's.
I have been looking around at gear and are quite shocked at the price of things, but am also happy to see that things have advanced quite a way in the safety aspects.
I'm wanting to start from scratch basically, apart from a helmet which can wait and some gloves.
I don't have a lot of money to throw around(big mistake not including gear with a budget), so have to make some smart choices. I have been looking at the 661 pressure suits that I could maybe use to wear underneath a light cordura jacket as I don't really think any of the jackets I've seen actually protect from the 'impact' of hitting a sharp,unforgiving bitumen road. Ten years ago I wouldn't have given two s...ts about this, but now with a little boy, I kinda like being around.....
Or is this the wrong way to go, and should I just get leather?(but it's that big problem again of $$$)
Pants would probably be leather(cordura and the likes just look ridiculous), although I've always had problems having slightly shorter legs. Regular length of any pants have always been just a little too long.
Any advise would appreciated.
I have been looking at Qmoto's site, but can't see much apart from racing gear. The pants and gloves look really nice, and it's good to support local as opposed to imported crap.

If your helmet's 10 years old, you really should replace it.
Look - post up your measurements, someone here (me for example) may have some spare gear to fit you. (I've currently got spare pants, jacket, helmet, gloves and boots that have been sitting in my cupboard for a while...)

Oh - as for wearing a pressure suit under cordura, that would be fine. Better than no armour, at least.

I am usually a Med,
Chest is about 96-98mm
Waist: fat git ... 32-34...about/depending on how much exercise I do.
My helmet was brand new and has never been dropped, not even one scratch on it.
AGV Q3R... it really is like new.

If I went and got a pressure suit (which would be medium) this would make me bigger and probably warrant a large sized jacket.

Helmet:
I have a problem with the visor, it seems to breaking down(the inside, seems to be flaking off), would it be possible to get another one, even though it's old?

Actually you are right, I have just checked the helmet an d it appears to have been manufactured in 02/96 and the internal lining looks as though it is breaking down.........holly crap the miss's aint goona be happy about this...........

You can get all the gear you need really cheaply. You just need to keep your eyes and ears open.

Look in the KB Ad section and also on Trademe for local sellers.

New gear isn't that expensive. Quasimoto has some good deals on his website, plus there are lots of others.

Getting it to fit right is pretty important and so is your comfort.

If you do it too cheaply, you will end up buting it all again in the not too distant future.

Hi, what colours you looking for and what sizes?
we land the Qmoto Qstreet gear next week so this might be something to suit you, I think you will be impressed with this gear and the price and its still triple stitched and still 1.4mm leather!

I don't think you'll need any additional protection from the bitchumen road other than a jacket. The jacket wont wearin through from a normal slide (although a Cordura one may be a right off after a slide, where as leather will probably last and be repairable).

Also remember your fall onto the bitchumen tends to be only from 1m to 2m (your height when sitting on the motorcycle). Just because you are going 100km/h in the forward direction doesn't mean you will be falling any harder.

So you need to consider abrasion resistance (the slide) and impact resistance (when you hit something while sliding like a curb, or the initial fall onto the ground from 1m to 2m [typically]).

I would like to think I'm a 32, but those years are behind me I'm afraid, so I would have to say I'm probably closer to a 34 or even more.......
But the thing is the leg length, have always been on the short side, say around 31inch
The Chest is about 96-97cm

Hi, I checked out the link.......not alot of information on the site so cant tell about the quality etc.
The equivalent is our soon to arrive Qstreet black rock model (be here next week)
What I suggest is if you can come for a ride to Hamilton to try some gear on?
this would be the best way if you can. the Black Rock range will be very well priced should be no more than $700 for Jacket n Pants.........Triple stitched (two rows Kevlar one row Bonded Nylon and 1.4mm thick leather)
So spec is going to be very high for this price bracket.

Thanks for the gear. I will try to get out over the weekend, it's been a long, long wait (ten years). So a couple of days more(if it's raining) hopefully wont matter.........
