Yamaha and the Ryuta Kawashima Laboratory at Tohoku University in Japan are running a joint research project – the second time they have conspired – into the relationship between motorcycle riding and brain stimulation.
The focus of the research is ‘the measurement and analysis of the cause and effect relationship involved in the operation of various types of vehicles and brain stimulation’. In simple terms, this follows up Dr Kawashima (yes, the one from the brain-training game) earlier study which indicated riding a motorcycle has positive effects on mental and emotional health.
The original testing also suggested that riding was good for older riders; increased brain stimulation led to subject being able to undertake cognitive tasks more efficiently.
Yamaha are to provide vehicles, make their test centres available for use by the Laboratory and will provide test staff and participants.
