trains for the win. If we actually invested in rail it would be on time. WTF is with britomart not being a thoroughfare, who is the complete dropkick barrel of monkey spunk that didnt see that becoming hte bottle neck. why is there no rail to the air port. why is there no rail to the shore. FFS this is what happens when you negelect the infrastructure for 30 years.

You have neglected to mention that your actions will add another lane on the motorway AND create a lot more motorcycle parking spaces, from where the bus stops' used to be!
    Huzzah!

Seriously. Bus drivers have living expenses like the rest of us. Inflation was rampant under the liarbour regime and the drivers are being offered fuck all. Probably not even keeping up with the rate of inflation.

A nice concept, but my plan, apparently, was Nazism. Ironic, given the discussion of public transport, that someone missed the "Clue train" so badly.

    Grr Nazis.

Absolutely. They are paid a pittance. I wouldn't do the job for much more money than they get in the hand.

As I understand it, the raise they were offered would negate previous inflation but wouldn't actually be an increase. Plus I believe there was some (proposed) changes to their contracts which would make their working conditions worse.

So that makes me wonder - why are we spending so much on subsidising buses and the construction of bus only rapid transit systems if it doesn't appear to be solving the congestion problem.

Perhaps we should be subsidising the use of motorcycles. LOL.

You don't need a degree to drive a bus.

Are you trying to draw a line between Uni drop outs, high school graduates and high school drop outs

$16 an hour $15 an hour $14 an hour

Anyone else notice the coincidence between the transport minister whining that KiwiRail needs to start making a profit and these bus strikes driving hundreds to the trains?

Your plan was to be made Mayor of d'Auckland. I supported your initiative.
I don't do trains. They attract passengers who are worse than bus passengers.
They also cause "trainspotting". Luckily this is being outlawed in Britian as it could assist a "muslim terrorist fanatic attack" on the rail network. Does His Worship Mully, The Lord Mayor of Auckland, wish to ban trains as well?
We can get the tracks concreted over and made into "bike only" roads?

FFS, of course they should have they money, they should earn more like 20dollars per hour, no one should earn less then 18dollars per hour with the prices on everything here in NZ!

    Pay Rise

I know what it is like to drive a coach not city runs but long distance, done it for 30years. Pay rate sucks for what drivers have to put up with. You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. I did a survey for bus and coach ass a while ago, they were trying to recruit younger males and females to become drivers. I asked for a book to write the answers on as they were as follows.
What rate of pay did we think we deserved, my answer was $18- $20 as tanker drivers were on $25 and they only carried milk, never get pulled over onto weigh bridges. Freight is covered by insurance carted In trucks live stock is covered by insurance also carted in trucks we carry your loved ones and no insurance can ever replace a human life there for a coach drivers job should be worth a lot more than $14. The responsibility is so much greater.
I agree city drivers are arrogant most of the time but to deal with rude passengers all day no thanks not for me, long distance any time and deal with the motorist on the open road. Be a bus driver for a day then tell us what you really think. No one can ever replace a life lost in anyone of our family's.

Good point; instead the powers that be try to tax us OFF the road. The whole system is a giant con, like global warming, which is an excuse to tax the crap out of everyone.

I have to say that on the occasions when I have to take a bus (usually when I have dropped one of my bikes off in town for servicing) I have found the drivers to be pleasant and the driving no worse than your average cage driver and usually a bit better. But I still find the whole experience frustrating, despite the fact I have a bus stop virtually at my door. Some years ago when I had a job in the CBD I decided to take the bus regularly. Even bought a monthly bus pass. Lasted about a week. For the same journey (CBD to Onehunga) at 5:30 p.m. the bike would take 20-25 minutes, by car it was 40 minutes, and in the bus around an hour. Worst time: 1 hour 15 minutes. A good train service (as experienced by people living in civilised cities around the world) is by far the best option. I am eagerly waiting the opening of the new Onehunga train line next year. I might even use it.

I dunno, heading to uni and back over the past couple of days seems to be pretty horrendous... Heaps more traffic around the Uni, Symonds st and Mt Eden rd at least, anyway...

Busless bus lanes have been a bonus. People parking in the bus lanes have been a bit irritating. The intersection between K rd and Symonds st actually works without buses trying to cross through the motorway on-ramp traffic. Still been just as many blocked intersections, inconsiderate cagers etc.

That would have to be one of the most stressful driving jobs in New Zealand. I’m for the drivers myself. I have driven professionally for 40 odd years and personally thats a job i would’nt even consider going near even if it payed $16 an hour.
