Years ago I got a job as a junior photographer for a top Wellington photographic business but started taking photos immediately as I had plenty of experience and they knew I was competent. The majority of the workers there were great, but there were two women in their 20s who were great friends. One was the receptionist and the other handled bookings and worked as an assistant sometimes. The assistant had apparently wanted my job, so she wasn't thrilled with me being there and the pair of them set about making my life a misery.

As a junior I was given all the crap jobs to do, like dusting the room where clients looked at photo books, putting out the rubbish (we were upstairs so that was a mission too) and getting morning tea. Most people were happy to give me money and get something from one particular shop for morning tea, but these bitches decided to make life even more difficult by making me go to two or three shops to get what they wanted. They treated me like shit, and would ignore me if I spoke to them, and make me do things that were part of their job. The business was family-owned, so I spoke to the son and his advice was to perhaps find another job! The money was crap, so after a few months I decided to leave and thought that would be the end of it.

Thought wrong, didn't I? In my final weeks they made even more effort to humiliate me. They would go in after I had dusted and come out and say "you missed a bit, do it all again" and they would send me out on errands all over town. The son used to travel a lot so he wasn't there while this was happening, and his mother didn't work full time either so they got away with it.

On my final day I didn't get away until late as they made me clean everything and put all the rubbish out, as well as doing the dishes, etc and I decided to catch the bus to the railway station instead of walking. I'd just sat down when the pair - and a new girl who started after me who they had roped in to pick on me as well - got on the bus and sat a few seats behind me. All the way to the station I had to put up with them making snide remarks, like "won't it be great going to work on Monday and not having to deal with that horrible bitch" and "shall we have a drink to celebrate her leaving tonight" etc.

I was so pissed off I wrote a letter to the mother on the weekend and explained exactly why I had left. She made the two ring leaders write letters of apology, which were obviously sent later without her seeing them as they were pathetic. One even said "I'm sorry for being nasty to you but you were responsible for this as you were not a nice person and I didn't like you" - despite the fact I got on well with EVERY other person in the company - and the other said something about me getting the job that was meant to be hers!

I had the last laugh about five years ago though at the Wellington Wedding Show. The assistant bitch was there representing the business, along with the new girl mentioned above. New girl came out with a brochure and said "if you are looking for a photographer, we would love to cover your wedding". I looked at her and said "you don't remember me, do you?" and she said "no". I pointed to the bitch and said "that's (her name) isn't it?" and she said "yes". I turned around to my fiancee and said "that's the prize bitch I told you about who made my life a misery when I worked for this company." I turned to the new girl again and said "you go and tell her who I am, and that I would NEVER in a million years use your services and I would never recommend you to anyone either." She was stunned and it felt SO good!

Beemer they were probably bloody brethren wankers lol.
My brother started his apprenticeship with a crowd who were brethrens, they had him doing the shit jobs,do rubbish run to the tip, then he'd get back and they say you forgot this lot(and conveniantly show him 2 bags they had hidden)when the boss was there, then thye'd have a meeting at lunchtime but brother wasn't invited to eat so would finish his lunch and ask what's happening etc, they'd say keep doing the same thing, then the manager would ask him why aren't you here,I told Mark to tell you at lunch.A reply of wasn't told due to them ignoring me at lunch was accepted just.

After sitting his 1st qual exam, and arranging his holiday to go to Aussie,he was told he wasn't needed.Mum said sorry you can't fire an apprentice without our permission(he was 17),and on your reasoning of trivial things,no written warnings etc. They said we're happy to transfer him,and after 2 calls mum made to friends she knew,he was transferred. The kicker was at the Taranaki apprenticeship awards the month later, both him and I recieved awards, and brothers' ex employer was sent a copy congratulating them on producing top apprentice in the region.

That wouldn't be the same brethren family owned New Plymouth building company that shut up shop at year's end in the late 80s paying their employees with rubber holiday pay cheques?
I know a few people that would love to have a word to that ex employer

No this wasn't NP firm,is a big company now though Taranaki wide. Was basically 2 man outfit, then they took on some religious zealots, owner believed everything the foreman said. The funny thing is brother worked closely with another brethren gang of builders, different family to original crew he started with.

Went through secondary school with a brethren,he got stick about his parents views on religion,he ended up leaving the flock, and saw the world wasn't as bad as they said.Worked with one on a research farm working for MAF,used to bring wicked home brew to drink, seems the serious religion is applicable if denouncing evils of media, but you can brew your liquor to hearts content.

Hide a half empty bottle of bourbon in her bottom drawer. Then tell HR you reckon she's drinking on the job.

Nope, company I worked for wasn't owned by Brethren, but the mother was not born here. The two who made my life a misery were a fat blonde bimbo and a buck-toothed skinny brunette with scarcely a brain cell between the pair of them!

Our former neighbours were Brethren though, and the wife caused so much trouble everywhere she worked. No one was sorry when the couple lost their jobs, sold their house and left town!

I find cutting wit tends to do it. I once told a work bully in a really sincere tone "Oh my god I'm sorry but I think you have mistaken me for someone who gives a shit, I'd like to share your opinion but i just can't get my head that far up my ass". Or another favourite "I know why you pick on me, you fancy me don't you" said at a good volume.

Try some of that but deliver it like you really mean it or it can look a bit grasping.
