    Hot discs?

Swapped the front wheels between the track VFR and the road VFR last night as the road bike's tyre was bald as a bald tyre on the edges. Which the boys in blue would be likely to frown upon if they saw.

Swapped them both, and all seemed good. Felt no difference maneuvering them around the garage, and no difference in the short blat I took down the street and back, apart from a marked improvement in handling.

But rode into uni this morning, and felt the front brake discs for the first time ever, just out of curiosity. Even though I hadn't used the front brakes a single time on the way in, they were pretty fookin' hot.

Is this just from the normal contact with the pads? Or if the discs on the wheel that just went onto the road bike were thicker than the ones that were on there before, is this just from the pistons being pushed backwards?

Or is this something I should be concerned about?

You rode all the way from home to Uni without using your front brakes? You're kidding right?

I'm pretty chillaxed while commuting. Engine braking and rear brake is usually all I need unless a car driver does something stupid.

    Fairy nuff.

If the brakes were hot to touch, but touchable, I wouldn't be concerned. If they had the sort of heat you'd expect after 5 laps of Pukekohe, that'd be a worry.

Jack up front end of bike on bricks/milk crates/ whatever. Spin front wheel. Ideally it should be friction free but if it doesn't manage at least half a revolution then it's sticking far too much. Whip off your front calipers and clean the brake pistons. Also check for warped disk(s).

I get the same swapping wet to dry wheels if I dont align the pads manually because my wets discs are worn. They dont self align very well at all and the disc contacts pads quite hard.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.

Make sure the wheel/rotors on the Axle is aligned right, best way is to loosen everything including the crimp bolts (have one side tight only) take of the callipers and jump on the forks (compressing them) 5 or so times, this should align the axles and the rotors tighten it up then stick the callipers back on, should help it run free if its a bit sticky or slow to spin.

P.s thats how I do it on my Motard, dont know much about your bike but the concept should be the same.

If you bring it down to Hams I will do it for ya

    Thanks for the advice guys.

I followed R6_Kid's tip first, and bleed both front brakes. Had no idea how much to bleed 'em by, so got about a teaspoon worth of fluid out of each. Was about to jack the bike up again to follow Brett's suggestion, when I realised I might as well take a few blats down the local street and so how it was now.

Seems to be perfectly fine now! Despite his looks, it would appear Gareth is pretty onto it.

I'll buy ya a beer at the next chiller mate. If you let me ride that TRX.... Mmmm...

there is a difference in the mounted position compared to before.Allthough it'll probably only be slight, but thats all it takes to get dragging like that.
I call it like I see it. Don't take it personally.
