I have no problems with VTNZ palmy jasper st (for my cages), trick is to try and have a yarn with the tester so they go easy on ya. Though they have failed me three times on two vehicles in the last month, all issues seemed justified though. I have stopped taking my bike there though, I trust a bike shop to pick up any dangerous stuff thats not on the wof list.

haha, same thing happened to me. i was waiting for my bike when i hear this huge rev and one of the guys at VTNZ (Thorndon!!!) came out on the back wheel. he hops off crapping himself and mumbles something about "bloody fast these jap bikes". it was horrible to see but funny to watch.
i wont be going back there.

    Well bugger me

Happy Birthday Gubb, shame it was a bastard of a start..

Not defending VTNZ but I personally use Upper Hutt VTNZ when ever I get the L200 a warrant, the guys there are excellent and if work does need done I know its needed, so far so good as the last was rear bushes which they even told me how to do but would not say where to get parts.. Parts ended up being cheaper at Mitzi anyway and took an hour to do outside their station.

However Thorndon on the other hand are IMHO pricks. They failed a co-workers Harley as it was too loud. Well if you are going to test a bike in a concreate building what do you expect, you clowns, take it outside in a natural environment? They say the test is subjective, what ever.... It eventually passed after a lot of heartach, money and an independant test

In law you must be proven guilty, with VTNZ at Thorndon it appears they do not have the ability to apply common sence or a little leaway where safety is not overly affected.

They didn't do that normal stuff at the AA place, which i found odd.

The wrecker I use normally justs does it by himself or with the help of his young fella while i walk off to the bike shops

VTNZ Thorndon Quay are really hard work. My car failed a brake test.

Took it to the local garage, they laughed at me for taking the car to VTNZ Thorndon "ha ha ha we gets heaps of business from them".

Local garage looked at my brakes. "Nothing wrong, well with in spec." they say.
"Can you WOF it?" I say. Local garage: "no you have to go back to the place that failed you". Ok .

Took it back to VTNZ Thorndon: "My brakes are fixed". VTNZ Thorndon tests again. " Nah they are better but still a fail" they say.
"WTF" I say. "Brake balance" VTNZ Thorndon say.

OK...so I take it back to local garage.
They laf and laf and laf.
    And then laf some more.
Finally they say VTNZ Thorndon are a pack of wankers, they'll take my car down for me and sort it. "Thanks" I say.

    I go along for entertainment.

My local garage mechanic has a stand up argument in the VTNZ in front of other VTNZ customers. Being a good mechanic, he pulls out the standards booky and also the spec for my car from the manufacturer. He shows this to VTNZ expeeeeerrrrt.
He then takes car to brake tester in front of VTNZ EXPERT and shows him the results again.
    Same as last time.
Show VTNZ eggpurt that my car passes easily via books and literature and evidence (seemed they need evidence 'cause its like going to the judge at VTNZ). Then (good bit) he shouts at him to give my car a freckin' warrant.

result? I bought mechanic much beer. VTNZ get no more business from me.

I had fun with a VTNZ in Auckland with complying a recently imported vehicle.

I won't go into details, because my blood pressue will skyrocket, but suffice it to say "Never again" for VTNZ

mate i posted this same nonsense at the vtnz in dunedin about 2 months ago. they claimed all sorts of crap that made no sense what so ever, real pricks about it too.

the one in chch was pretty sweet (blenheim rd) but i think ill give the lot a miss now, there's something about working there that makes you a wanker more often than not.

kinda like being a traffic cop i guess.......

you dont have to go back to where failed you, you only have to go back to get the WOF reinspection for free.

That's hilarious! Just a quick plug: I've had mixed luck with car WoFs so I was a bit apprehensive when I took my bike in for it's first ever (well, my first ever anyway) WoF. I was pleasantly surprised - the guy rides - his BMW1200 was out front, and was sensible and reasonable if you know what I mean:

    Dave Brock Motors in Whangaparaoa

I'll have to take my car in soon and see what happens.

Took terrano for wof at VTNZ wellington. "fail, rust in front"
Take to panel beaters,32 days and 3k later the front is all steel and rust free
Took it back for new check with VTNZ "fail, rust in back"
"WTF?" says me, why didnt you tell me about that a month ago, I would have thrown the ute away"
Get this, they said "it cant have been there, must have just come up"
4k later terrano was ALL steel.
7k spent on 5k work wagon.

Consider yourselves lucky, I have 3 trucks and VTNZ is the ONLY place you can go in wellington for a 107$ COF. WANKERS

Haven't had problems with VTNZ Botany Hub or Cryers Rd, all 4 bikes of Zapf and I go through there. Issues are advised, such as pads getting low etc, and yeah... the bike inspection guys actually have bikes.

Seem like a bunch of good real people... (even being managed by a pom I think )

On the whole i'm happy we have a safety inspection on our cars because as much as you lot bitch about the testers the alternative aint pretty.
Mind you I got a failed wof for a bike beeing to loud.
Now the LTSA standard is 100dbs for a bike over 250cc etc etc.
This bike was so quiet you could talk in a normal voice with it idling and slightly raised when revved up.
