I used to use a .223 in my killing days, it doesn't appeal much now though. Geez I'm getting soft.

Dayum that's nice! I'm sorely tempted TBH. Bit strapped for cash ATM though (hell, when am I *not* strapped for cash?)

Been wanting a tack-driving .308 for a while though... *nice* scope and price there too.

Where were you geographically, Jackrat? I think you mentioned it in another thread but I'm lazy...

I work at the base of Wiri Mountain, next to the quarry. There are stacks of goats cavorting all over the mountain. I understand that they are wild, but might be wrong - need to do some homework first. Anyway, it doesn't get much easier for access. The thrill fo the chase might be lacking, however.

surely in the eye at 100m it doesn't matter if they're wild or not.....

If you are talking about "Mc Laughins Mountain" which is located near the Wiri Quarry, I think you may not be able to discharge a fire arm there due to the close proximity to WORSL (The Bulk Fuel depo) I seem to recall some obscure red tape type bull shit that states fire arms are not to be used within a certian distance of a bulk fuel depo ??, Can make some enquires if you want, have a contact at the bulk fuel depo

Mate, when I lived in Manurewa I hunted rabbits around there a couple of times,I had permision to site in a center fire on the far side of the block,The goats are grazed there by a woman that pays for grazing.I don,t know who she is but I have been told in the past that you will be for the high jump if you go anywhere near them.I gained access thru, the quarry manager,I think they have the main lease on the land around there.Go an talk to them
before you do anything that would get you in trouble.
    Cheers.

Blaaaaady 'ell, you're not pulling my leg are you? You obviously have *far* too much spare cash on your hands!

Where do you get your ammo, or do you reload for it? In which case, where the hell do you get .50 cal brass and bullets around here? Did you get an E-class license specifically for that gun or do you have a bunch of other bad-ass stuff sitting around?

If I had several grand and nothing better to do with it I'd want a .50 cal just *because* but I'm not sure if I'd go with a Barrett, they're pretty expensive for what you get.

I use a .303 for goats and a .22 to finish them off. Had a bad experience with a .22 once though - the goat just wouldn't die and screamed like a human. Really not nice! Put me off for a few days.
jr - if you're ever in Wgtn I'll take you for a hunt down our way if you want. There's quite a few goats down our valley and I go out every so often.

Dunno if or when I'll be in Wellytown, but if I do come down, I'll bring the cannons and see what I can tee up.
