    cbr 600 help... a little

    Hey guys

Can someone please help me with this.

Yesterday, my cbr 600 just got stuck at the lights. It just suddenly died and couldnt be restarted. I got a few questions if someone would help me...

    - how hot does a bike get usually... i mean my bike before it went out was around 102 degrees.... and it just kept on rising.. is this usual?

    - well wen i now try to start it, i feel that there is a problem between the battery and the starter. The battery seem to be alrite as when i put my keys in the ignition, i can see the front lights light up and all the things on the speedometre but as soon as i hit the electric start button, there is that weird noise which one would usually get when their starter (in a car) is gone... and i also have noticed that when i press my front brakes, the bike sort of "restarts"... meaning the clock gets restarted to 1:00 AM and all the lights in the speedometre goes off and takes a few seconds to come back on.

    - Could this be my oil level.... if its too high..?

    - Does anyone know of a good mechanic, or is a good mechanic in Auckland city for honda cbr 600..?

thanx for reading and any help would very much be appreciated.

I suspect that you charging system is gaboof (hey a new word!).

One or all of the following are a bit smoked. Alternator, rectifier/regulator/battery.

Basically the bike stopped charging the battery properly & the voltage dropped to such a level that it couldn’t sustain ignition at low revs thus died at the lights & couldn’t be restarted.

I vote rectifier and/or your bikes elastictrickery circuitry.

The recitifers on older Honda's are famous for blowing (up to '99 I think). This was largly due to the bad design by a third party supplier. I know yours is a more recent model, but ya never know.

No rectifier, no electricity to the battery, starter, sparks etc etc.

In all honesty it sounds like it may be a relatively simple problem (in term of $$ to fix), but a bugger to diagnose just from your posting.

Well not really that hard, just check the battery voltage with a meter (almost free from Dick Smitt or somewhere) when you hit the starter it will plummet. Ok Battery needs a charge. If it then starts up then measure the voltage with some revs on (say 5k) & it should read at least 13.5 volts & less than 14.7.

If it is more then the battery will be boiled dry & very dodgy. Definitely the regulator is fried.

After this then it could be both the regulator &/or the alternator. To test the alternator gets a bit more involved to explain so try the above. Or push it to a shop.

VTRs had suspect regulators as well so most likely.

thanx alot for the help guys.. really appreciate your info.

I dont think battery is gone as if i were to start the ignition now... the front light and everything in the speedo lights up perfectly. As soon as i hit the start button, it makes this wierd sound (exactly like how the car sounds when its starte is "gaboof")

Then if i press the front brake, then whole speedometer thingy RESETS itself and after a few times of pressing the front brakes, nothing then appears on the speedo, just the background light..

I am thinking of taking to the mechanic or if some mechanic could come to my place since i dont have a trailer to take it there... anyone know any MOBILE mechanic at a reasonable price in auckland region.. mainly near st.lukes / mt.albert area..?

    Regards

So enough juice to light the front light but then the starter motor trying to do its thing causes it to drop voltage causing all your electrics to go haywire nay! Pressing the brake draws more juice again.
Borrow a good battery and see if it will fire up, if it does you've got a starting point. Don't run too far with the borrowed battery or you'll kill it too, but you can probably get to the workshop without drama.

Rossi rep with the playstation controls on the tank? Try using the handlebars instead of the playstation controls.
