    Boxing in Auckland

    Sup.

I've decided (after several glasses of JW) that I really want to start boxing. Can anyone in AKL recommend a good place to get started? Never boxed before but prepared to do the hard yards. Any help would be dope

heaps of boxing gyms around mate, just look in an area thats local to you.

OR you could wear a "i hate niggas" shirt in south auckland.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Really cool gym. Definitely recommend it, they'll put you through the hard yards for sure. I'd love to go back, but don't have the time & $ for two gyms and lifting is my current fitness 'thing', one day though!

I heard the carpark at the Manukau mall on a tuesday afternoon is the place to get into a hard boxing match.

I do. Every second or third night.

Started out buying a boxing bag at home, coupled with skipping and resistive training [press ups, pull ups, sit ups etc]. That got me reasonably fit, but became monotonous after a while so I joined the local gym. Now I alternate between treadmill/rowing machine with 20 minutes on the bag, weights and 20 minutes on the bag, and circuit training with 20 minutes on the bag. Shortly I will join the boxing group every Wednesday. Couple of things that might be helpful to you:
    • The home bag will become to small, mine has put a hole through an adjacent wall [full size gym bags are another story].
    • Box 3 minute rounds if you can.
    • Alternate between hitting as hard as you can [plenty of 'how to vids' on the net] and boxing.
    • Try and do a round with no gloves to toughen up your hands.
    • Beware of some boxing gyms, you can easily end up as 'the punching bag.
    • Wear head gear if you are going man on man.
Boxing will get you fit and give you confidence, it creates explosive power and toughens the mind and body.

I do/did for about 3 or 4 years. Revilles boxing gym in Pakuranga was my gym. Lance Reville runs it and he knows his shit.
    Costs about $400 a year I think....

Agree with what you say about becoming the gym punch bag...

Lance is good about not mismatching training partners or sparring sessions and looks afters his fighters.

Well there's the boxing central place on Boston rd in Mt Eden, been there forever. Otherwise across the road from Caltex (where the old Gasoline Alley was) is another boxing gym a guy I play indoor footy with uses. He rates it.

Sweet, thanks for the replies. I might try out the place in Mt Eden or City Boxing (as it's in the area). Is getting a bag for practice at home before joining a good idea?
