I remember when road rage was first given a label back in the UK media. Before that the instances weren't recorded as it would have been classed as an assault.

When looking into the causes of road rage it was found that the main cause was nothing to do with dangerous driving at all but was due to a lack of courtesy. If a driver allowed another driver merge and did not receive a wave of thanks the first driver would be enraged and would follow the other driver agressively for miles ending in confrontation when the second driver stopped.

Also in instances where a driver 'cut' another driver up - this was easily solved by a friendly wave of apology from the offending driver.

In short it was advisd that everyone be courteous to reduce the number of road rage incidents. Maybe this roadwarrior shit is the unpleasant catalyst required to bring courteous road use to New Zealand....NZ Last Bastion of the fucken rude driver.

The piece of road we were on at the time was a single lane and had been for about 1 km or more. So either our transgression was a complete figment of her imagination or it had happened at least 1 km back.

Either way, she was prepared to try to kill us both because we allegedly didn't indicate when changing lanes?! On a scooter?!

I agree with wbks. Everyone should just take a breath and chill out a bit!
Jesus fucking christ! This is the stuff I'm talking about! Psycho bitch thinks that you could have damaged her car when she obviously (in her mind) just about connected with your un-indicated lane changing ass, so she tries to smash into the fucking thing a km up the road!

I hope you are being ironic, because that is exactly the kind of thing I'm calling in this wambulance for. So I got flipped the finger and cut off for no apparent reason... Who cares?

Nah, not in a country where people take a 20something question test and are from then on told by their family and those around them how much of a good driver they are, and therefor never see anything as their fault.

That's complete bullshit. Re-read what you have typed.

Road-rage is all about some asshole letting their emotional state to get so out of control, they lose control of their physical self, and then bash some person because of their self-allocated right to do so.

It's absurd to hold someone ELSE accountable for ones lack of ability to control their feelings. Get a grip.

My tongue was firmly planted in cheek

Mind you yesterday I narrowly avoided an accident when a 4WD cut into me (how do you not see the car next to you out your drivers side window?).
I responded as one does with a blasting of the horn - I received the 'sorry wave'. I had to count to 10 to calm down .........

How do you do this "sorry wave"? Last time I tried a "sorry mate" gesture they got even more pissed off!

    I always wondered though .........

Driver X knocks me off my motorcycle.

I get up and punch driver X in the face.

Police arrive and charge me with assault.

I go to court and claim self defense. My argument is:
"but your honour, he had already attempted to kill me with his car, god knows what he was going to do to me next, so I was only fighting for my life"

I find it odd that someone can harbour so much anger over a situation that happened on the way to work, that they carry it all day & as soon as they get home in the evening, they log onto K.B & spout an angry rant with frightening detail.
Let it fucking go, get a life & stop stressing out about what is essentially just LIFE.
These sort of people are a nightmare to work or live with.
My internal daialogue when people cut me up on the road is, "well you pissed me off for a second, but youre going to go on pissing yourself off for the rest of your life with an attitude like that" so i win.

I appears to involve a nervous flutter of the hand - a wee bit of a gay action, which I suspect helps defuse the incident.......

    It's all my fault.
I'm finding the more I ride/drive (especially drive) in D'Auckland traffic, the grumpier, more impatient and less tolerant I get. I also swear a lot.
Has the shit driving reached a critical overload for me?

I'm trying to switch off, chill out, be more patient, but it's fucking hard! I JUST WANT TO SMASH ALL THE ARSEHOLES ON THE ROAD! WHY DON'T THEY KNOW HOW TO DRIVE PROPERLY!?!?

WHY IS EVERYONE ELSE SUCH A FUCKTARD!!

    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Yup, best to chill. S**t happens. I just stay out the way & try not to get collected. Admittedly I sometimes feel like taking lethal action but get over it real quick.

The incident might not be, but the over-reaction always is.

Reality check - the incident was microscopic. The road rage was not.

    Keep things in perspective.

Hahaha, a bit gay. At least us women can get away with doing it and it can just be put down to being a "girlie". hehehe.

It is quite possible to make gestures while riding which are very clearly NOT rude ones. In the rare instance when I've had to "apologise" to a driver I've gone for a hand-palm-down-about-chest/chin-height gesture (with the little flutter!). I'm not entirely sure why I do that other than it looks non-threatening.
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...
