It first started not going once in awhile, usually was fine at the start of a ride, then stopped working about 10 mins in. Then got more frequent... Sent the bike to the shop for a service, they cleaned everything out and speedo came back great for about a week, then gradually stopped working again!
Any ideas?
This photo I've taken below, is that the speedo sensor?
How do I diagnose the problem? or is this something to take to the shop?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, that's the speed sensor. Similar to Aprilia & Ducati.
Not sure about the Cagiva but is there an easy way to read fault codes without the factory tool? On some bikes you can do this, but you'll probably have to do some searching on specialist forums to find out.
In the meantime, clean it and the area of the disc it reads from and check any connector blocks and wiring between the sensor and the ECU just in case you have a broken wire, dirty connection or similar.
Outside of that I guess you'll have to take it back to the shop and get them to plug it into the diagnostic tool. Might be worth pricing a new sensor and taking a punt on replacing it depending how much the shop quotes you to do the work/diagnostic etc.
Just some thoughts, hope it helps.

Thanks... yeah, the intermittent-ness of the problem probably points to a loose connection somewhere or dirt...
I'll have a poke around... Thanks!
Might pay to duck down to Supercheap or Repco and buy some dialectric grease and apply it to the connectors, just in case it's water that's getting and creating problems.
Good luck

Did you ever get this fixed? My Cagiva has an intermittent problem with the speedo too where it either stops working or reads up to 3 times the speed Im actually doing.
I've tried cleaning the sensor and brake rotor etc but that didn't seem to help and all the connections look alright.
The first thing I'd check would be the speedo and sensor grounds. They get old and grungy. And the ground between the front-wheel/bar/shock assembly and the rest of the bike has to be good, too.

I'll check them again this weekend but I think they are ok because everything else on the dial cluster works fine. Its just not showing a speed above 0.
