Out of interest I have just done a fuel/distance test, wanted to see if anything has changed as a result of clean gas. I now get 19.5 kms to the litre. I have a tank range of 185 kms before reserve (9.5 ltrs), leaving 2.5 ltrs reserve in the tank. So a complete distance range of 230 kms between fills.

Much improved from what it has been. I am using 95 octane, wonder what it would be on 91?

Sounds about right Anne. In theory it would do worse mileage on 91 but prob not by a large margin. But is all running sweet now?

Probably exactly the same ... except less $/km ... the ultimate fuel economy test.

It had a couple of moments when I first went out on Friday night, probably 20 k's of naughtiness, then it cleared. Refuelled and did 185 k's of awesome running before hitting reserve. As soon as I went to reserve it started coughing and sluttering again, but that cleared in 10 k's and sweetness once again. I am picking there was still shit in the fuel tap, much as I tried to clean it out, now that has cleared I think I will be fine.

Only one weird thing left, and this may well be a blue lovely quirk

I lubed up the choke mech on the back of the carbs. Now the choke wont stay open, it slips back to shut. She is a very slow to warm up engine, a good 5 mins to get any kind of idle out of her, even then only between 500 and 1000 rpm, nursing required. I had considered turning the idle up a bit but...

When she is properly warm she idles at 1500 rpm, which makes me want to turn it down

    I can live with that

Try spraying a bit of CRC "Kleen a Carb" around the choke mechanism, Mom.
That should get rid of excess lubricant that may be causing the choke to not stay on

Actually Anne you should do this while the BL is running and make a point of spraying a small amount on the carb rubbers. These are the carb to engine mounts not the carb to airbox. One of the rubbers in particular that I noticed was starting to perish,ie crazy cracking type appearance. It could be years before it is a problem but if the engine suddenly speeds up, then it is cracked thru and already sucking air. Worth doing. If it is sucking air, even a tiny bit, you will never get it to run proper. I don't think this is the case but is very simple to check. Oh by the way, I lubed the bejesus out of all the cables when I had it all apart! Cos I'm like that!
