    Str8's VMCC Round 6

    Firstly I must thank Chrissie from WF photography for putting up my entry fee for round 6 so that I could race!

    This weekend was full of excitement and alot of sadness for me....

    I was feeling pretty excited aboutv round 6 and I had one goal for the weekend and that was to get a time of 1.35 or less. SStock's went out for qualifying first and the track was in pretty good condition. I managed to get in behind Russel and followed him round for most of the 10 mins until being swamped by 125's throwing themselves in front of me into corners and then jamming on their brakes which almost saw me low side a couple of times to avoid them. Qualifying felt good and as it turned I had managed to set a new PB of low 136's. I was stoked and was feeling really happy about the rest of the day.

    I made the mistake of checking my cellphone just after qualifying which is something I always avoid for fear of being put off by bad news. For some odd reason I checked it on Sat to find that my grandfather had passed away earlier that morning. I was feeling pretty torn. Kind of wanted to go home but so much of me wanted to get that PB. So I sucked it up and thought to myself; "this ones for grandad"!

    At the dummy grid at the begining of Race 1 I got a bit emotional and had a few tears. I almost called it a day at that point but managed to compose myslef. I had a bloody awful start and managed to get past a few people and got in behind Natasha. I managed to get right in behind her and at one point I tired to get past her coming out of the sweeper. Unfortunately I had chosen to go to the right of her when she started drifting towrd the right as well. We were right on the edge of the track and my front wheel was right next to her rear tyre. I knew that she didnt know I was there so I had no choice but to go onto the grass right next to the pit lane wall. The front of the RG bucked quite a bit but by some small miracle I got back on the track and stayed there till the end of the race. I was sweating pretty badly when I got back. When I went to get my time I read 134.7XX and just about fell over. I was stoked!!

    Race 2 was pretty much the same and I had a blast. Finished the race as my bike started spluttering...

    I learnt something new on Saturday evening. Dont go to a prize giving pissed!!! At some point during the prize giving I was playing with my shoe when they were presenting the trophy for "Best Rookie" then all of a sudden I heard my name. I had to look around me at first but realised that I had to go to the front... Wow, it is really daunting to be standing, pissed as a fart in front of a room of people clapping for me. I was made to give a speech and for the first time in my life I was speechless! I forgot to thank alot of people so here goes:
    I would like to thank:
    • Vic Club for running an awesome event;
    • All the flaggies, marshalls and all volunteers;
    • Thanks to Chrissie for being so very supportive all year, and
    • All my mates who put up with me and my shit!

    I have had an awesome year and learnt so much. I started the year with 2 goals and I exceeded all my own expectations so I am very happy with my efforts this year and am looking forward to next year!

    Thanks all for reading this!

    Congrats on yr Trophy !!! First of many aye !!!
    A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
    The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
