Need a muffler for the bucket.

Ok. last royes hill meeting i was one of the unlucky ones that got there bike noise tested (Thanks Dad ). the limit is 95db right. well i managed to get the highests reading of the day at 114dba and because every one aparently wants to keep racing i dont want to be the one that pisses off all the Neighbors and gets the place shut down. i've been looking on trade me and they seem to all be too, big too small, too expensive. i was thinking about buying one of those pit bike ones but think they might be a bit loud. has any one got suggestions on type of mufflers that could do the trick. maybe if someones even got one for sale.

I assume the bucket is the RG150, if so and if you still have the stock muffler, try repacking it. I know that when I did this to the RG I had a while back it made a huge difference to the noise level.

na its gl145, ill have my stock cbr125r exhaust spear in the next couple of weeks if your interested, its stainless steal, the only thing is its a bolt on connection not a slip on. But it shoudnt be to hard to connect to your header. You can have it for $30

I have a coby 2" resonator on my FZR 1000. cost me $75 from local service center and a couple coats of spray paint.

I used the original clamp of the old muffle and cut 4 slots into the resonator where it goes over the exhaust and clamped it tight.

It keeps a thou down to road levels so you should be sweet.

make your own
go to the exaust shop and get the pipe
fold up some panel steel and weld it all together
pack it with wire wool and away you go

it's a bucket after all dont worry about the spray paint

yes i know the felling as i too was loud too ..... does your muffler unbolt ? i took all my packing out and welded a washer into the centre pipe of the muffler, i drilled a few litle holes in the washer before welding it in too stop full restriction. then i just filled can with steel wool and no packing like Buckets4Me said.

i repacked my muffler with fiberglass but i wrapped it pretty tight. does it make it quieter if its loosly packed

yes i found it does, it was even quieter if i just used steel wool and no fiberglass. steel wool is like 30$ from ripco etc

I put the "titanium" pot scourer on first and secure it with lockwire. Then put the steel wool over that and again secure it with lockwire. Seems to last better than just using steel wool as the titanium scourer resists being blown out better than the finer steel wool.

Ally tube is quieter than steel as steel 'rings' Try to use as small a diameter perforated core as you can get away with (within safe limits if a 2 stroke) as that really helps. Also a reversal section really helps & often doesn't hurt power at all.

Nah seriously - its a bucket, talk nicely to custom chambers and see if they have anything "lying around" for you
