Talking Coro Loop (Northern Clockwise Direction) Ride – Saturday 24th October

Weather is going to be sh*t hot for this Saturday! Nothing but forecasted. Myself and Qkkid have decided to go for a cruise on the Northern Half of the Coro Loop. So if you don’t have anything else better to do, dust off your gear and come out for a ride!

What: A day ride down to Kopu and clockwise around the ‘Northern Loop’, stopping at Coroglen Pub for lunch (this is a great pub for bikers to stop off at and watch other bikes pass by while eating one of their monster burgers!), then down to Kopu via SH25A. Ride back to Auckland via Kaiaua (option to stop at the Fish ‘n Chip Shop for a cold drink / snack if needed) and Kawakawa Bay / Maraetai. (See attached map)

Ride is approx 450kms for the return trip. (This will be broken up with petrol / lunch stops)

When: Saturday 24th October (This Saturday!)
    Time: Meet 8.00am, leave 8.30am*
Place: BP Autobahn, Papakura (just past Papakura off-ramp heading south)
Why: Because its one of the best road rides in the North Island! Chance to wear your Anti-ACC tee-shirt off to the public so get off your computer and do some real Kiwibiker stuff!
Speed: Up to medium pace - open to all who can ride with confidence at legal road speeds on moderate difficulty roads. 250’s, cruisers and pillions welcome. (Ride not suitable for complete novices / L-platers) Most people will find a pace that suits their level of riding. Valentino Rossi’s should stay at home and polish their bike.

Hamilton / Tauranga riders are welcome to meet us at the Kopu Petrol Station around 9.15 -9.30am

    IMPORTANT – Please read

Riders are to be fuelled up before departure of BP Autobarn – or you will be left behind!

It is common knowledge that the Coro Loop can be treacherous at times and will be busy with holidaymakers – Campervans / boats / mad cagers. Thames Coast Road can be a bit dodge after it has had rain, there can be gravel on the very inside of the road (especially on the hills) so you will need to keep this in mind. Ride at your own risk.

Please take the time and read the ‘Group Riding Guide’.

    * Why are we leaving so early?
    1. Hopefully beat the traffic into the Coromandel
    2. Leaves time to do other options like riding the Whangapoua Gorge twice!
    3. Why sleep in when it’s going to be a cracker of a day! Get the f*ck out of bed and ride!

    Hi Qkchk!

Although the Loop will be busy with holidaymakers this weekend, it will be a sight better than the following Saturday (31st) and I'd advise all bikers to stay off the Peninsula that day. It's the K2 cycle challenge which means that the Loop will be chokka with hundreds of cyclists. After witnessing some of the poor behaviour by cyclists at last year's event, it's no place for either cars or motorcycles.

    Cheers,

    Geoff

It's almost a pity. I've never claimed ACC before!
