Shinko did indeed buy the technology - which makes me wonder about the people (at the time) who complained that Shinko were shit but they couldn't find those great Yokohamas...

Could be wrong, but I seem to recall it was something about Shinko buying the moulds and manufacturing technology, but not using the same carcass structure as Yokohama and so ending up with a tyre that looked the same but handled differently.Shinko did indeed buy the technology - which makes me wonder about the people (at the time) who complained that Shinko were shit but they couldn't find those great Yokohamas...

They are manufactured in the same manner with the same rubber and compounds as other, more popular makes!
Shinko claim the only difference is the price!

Maybe the car and bike(if it still exists) side are different companys, like Huskvana with there bikes , chainsaws and sewing machines

Its a shame really.
I ws pondering what to replace the shite RE92's on the commodore the other week.
I don't need a performance tyre because I'm not one of those tosers who rates himself behind the wheel, but I don't want shite tyres because I hate hitting logging trucks head on because my tyres are shit.
I went down to Tony's and they recommended a Bridgestone and Firestone for $200 and $180 a piece respectively. Did a bit of reading up on them and neither seems to get their buyers raving.
Got to thinking. I've never had a bad Yokohama on my cars. Tried all sorts of other shit in the H and some V ranges, but they all tended to wear real quick (10k's) if they gripped, or just didn't grip enough for my liking.
In the end I went with Yokohama C-drives. $160 fitted after a phone call back to Tony's. In the wet they are just phenomenal!
End of summer, I'll probably get a set for the wife's car.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.

If it was on the stock sized 205/65R15 the best upgrade is putting it onto a 215/60R15, I've driven them back to back and the difference is huge
C-drive is a very good tyre though, nice ride quality and low road noise
