Auckland ride to the Waikato Rally

Well the Wellingtonions have got their shit together and started a thread on how they're planning on getting to the rally, so I figure we Orklanders better do the same.
So where are we meeting, time etc - route perhaps 22 to Ngaruawahia, otorohanga, and then that lovely stretch of road between te Kuiti and National Park? Or has anyone got better ideas?

Haven't decided whether to go with the Orkland or Wellywood group - depends which route sounds the most fun!!!

bugga, you beat me to it RR..

I caught up with De Man (aka Quaz) and we went over a few things today about the rally. He's asked if us Auckyland lot can be in Hammy around 9.30, he's shown me where (excellent 'entertainment' area while we wait for him to get his slack ass outta bed). So, we figured the best plan of attack would be to meet at the Paps Autobahahahahaharn at 8am sharp, then head straight down SH1 to Hammy. We've got a heck of a ride for most peeps who aren't as used to longer rides as some (my ass feels like I'm the prison virgin for the last 6 months after today!), so we're best to get going. We have plenty to ride when we get there, so lets just get there to start. For those who want to do the 22, then you do what you want, but do a new thread so that there's no confusion. We are to be at the rendezvous point at 9.30.

Also, fuel - we also worked out that your bike will need a rough range of about 230kms. Bear in mind that it's going to be pretty much 100kph all the way, so your usual range will be extended slightly (no town to slow down, idle etc). If your bike will not cover 230kms, then you need to stop at the BP that is at the end of the 22 (can't remember the town/area). If there are a few, then we can have everyone carry on, and those who need, can stop, fill and catch up, the rendezvous isn't much further from there.

Once at the Rally point, then we can ride around, do whatever etc, but we don't want to spend the whole day just getting there.

Have to leave the Paps AB at 8 sharp tho, so if it's gone 8 and you're not there, keep on rollin and catch up..

Sorry to take over Riff (kinda), just something Quaz and I spoke about earlier, and didn't get chance to post..

Let me know where it is at so that I can meet y'all there and hang out before y'all head off on your ride. And riding from Aucks to Hammy makes your backside hurt? Damn mate you gonna have heaps of fun on the ride down to the rally. Take a pillow to sit on.

    Helping hand

    Hi All

Don't forget we are taking the car and trailer as support vehicle so if you want a clean bike to enjoy the ride we still have space for gear. Just PM me and we'll work out the details.

    Cheers

I did the 22 there and back in almost one hit (had a break at Quasi's for 20 mins). The 22 was fine, but the southern finished off me ass from Puke back up to dorkland. My bike isn't made for sitting on, it's made for hanging off, which I was, until the freeway..

Anyway, what do you mean about letting you know where it is? Where what is? Have I missed a bit...???

And as for BigBs comment, could the peeps who are driving down, please state what car (make & model) and colour it is, so that when we're following, we know what to look for? Don't worry about reg, cos hardly anyone will remember.

I also have done some posters (Spank Approved), so I will bring them with me to the AB (which we're meeting to leave at 8 sharp). If you want to before hand, then it's attached so you can print your own off. I have done about 20 A4 and 20 A3 posters. That way, KBer's on bike will know who's who. Also, the big yellow patch, scribble your name on it, so we know who's who in the cars too

Okay people listen up to ole Quasi for a sec.

you will be meeting me in Hamilton at 10 am, Bug knows the spot and it is covered on the info due to be posted tomorrow. He stronlgy protested about the 9.30 am meeting time on behalf of the Auckland contingent, I considered this for some time and concluded that Aucklanders are not made of the typical KIWI grit (particulary Suzuki riding Aucklanders) therefore I have changed the time to 10am

I STRONGLY suggest you keep away from 22 for a few reasons.
1/ with typical KB shagging around it will take you 2 1/2 hours to get the whole crew through.
2/ it will knacker you quickly, there is a whole lot of riding to be done on day one and day two.
3/ Lesser experienced riders are coming and do not need the pressure of 22 on start up.

So come down State 1 and do you and everyone else a favour.
I recomend you follow Bugjuice down as he has knowledge of the meeting spot.

Sorry didn't think I had to be child specific. Where in Hamilton are you guys meeting up with the people from here to ride down to the rally. Would meet with ya at the Autobahn but if I could go to Auckland I would be able to go to the rally.

sod off.. I'm happy with 9.30.. the start time that was early is the one on the sheet - 'bar closes at 1am (or whatever), up at 8.30am to kick out..' bit I was on about.. You can see drunk bikers getting up that early? Getting there is fine tho.

    k, well 4 options -
    • Quasi changes back to the original time of 9.30 (unless he's the one who can't get up)
    • we still get there for 9.30 and burn off half a tank doing 'emergency braking' proceedures until the cops come
    • go round to Quasi's and demand he gets the bbq going for brekkie
    • we just meet 30 mins later at 10, which means we leave the AB SP at 8.30 instead of 8

    should we 'poll' it?

jump across at rangariri or whatever it is, take river road down the other side of the river, nice easy road less traffic and faster, then carry on south through ngarawahia down that road whatever its called then you hang a left somewhere and pop in the back of hams! you know the way I am talking about Quasi so maybe you could clarify the directions!!...... my 2 cents

Okay 9.30 then , you can bear the brunt of the Auckland bikers for depriving them of 1/2 hour sleep .

    sheesh !!
