Traffic cop on Stonehenge-Martinborough road this afternoon

I thought they weren't allowed off SH2 in the 'Rapa.

Wasn't quite so it was alright but I've never seen one along there before.

Word around "town" has it there's an extra poh-leese unit been assigned to specifically patrol the backroads in the 'rapa.

Yep, clearly patrolling the back roads of the rapa is more important than investigating violence against children. Good to see our tax money is well spent. We would not want police going after child abusers while hoons on bikes doing more than 110kmh in the rapa go free, no would we?

According to recent news items there is a backlog of MANY YEARS in the investigation of crimes against children in that area...

    Stonehenge?

I thought the only Stonehenge was on Salisbury Plain?

Much as child abuse is a real problem I honestly don't believe that extra police resources are the answer to solving it. That particular problem is endemic in our culture and the cops can't fix our culture. You could double the Wairarapa (or any) police force and still achieve sweet FA.

On the other hand we do seem to make an increasing habit of spearing off into the shrubbery and I'd rather have real live human cops on the job as at least a partially effective deterrant than extra speed camera's. In this instance we've only got ourselves to blame, I'm afraid.

Yep. The farmers out the back of Martinborough get the wind up when exiting their driveways and some prat wizzes past at 160kph. Hence a few complaints to police resulted in patrols.

I've passed 3 different cops when doing Martinborough to Gladstone via the water towers on one ride and it's quite common to see at least one out there.

So less Police resources are the answer? That's like saying the answer to not being able to see at night is the same or less light.

No, I'm saying choose the right tool for the job. Police can only help clean up the mess after it has happened, surely it would be more effective to stop the mess happening in the first place?

As with child abuse I guess...
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Yep, that's what I was referring to, sorry if I wasn't very clear.
