A wise motorcyclist would go and see their boss immediately and tell him/her they want to be paid for not having a afternoon tea break so they can save the extra $ to pay for motorcycle rego.

Lets see ..... 52 weeks a year less 4 weeks annual, is 48, less 11 days stat holidays - lets say 2 weeks. 46 weeks - at 5 days a week, 230 days of tea breaks. Lets say you only want to give up one a day.

Rego at $800 per annum. Divide that by 230 days, you want $3.47 in the hand per day.

At last. Now I wont have to break the law on night shift. Imagine the chaos if electricity workers obeyed the law as it has been since Liarbour passed it. All power stations shut down at 11:00 pm so the workers can have their mandatory meal break. Hydro stations can startup again half an hour later, but most thermal stations won't be back on line by the time they have to shut down for their next mandatory break.

Since this law was passed all power stations workers have ignored it.

Criminals, obviously. I'm surprised Queen Heilen didn't have them all locked up.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Well there's alway extra cash to be made; http://www.nzherald.co.nz/prostituti...ectid=10119552

$80 for oral; $120 for sex; $60 for hand relief
Sounds a bit stiff to me - but I guess it wouldn't take too long to pay for the rego

Tis funny... I was having this same conversation with a workmate (also a motorcyclist) and I was stating how many jobs that I had worked in where getting a break was not really an option like Hospo and working in a retail shop on my own etc etc... The guy is a bit younger than me but I couldn't believe his attitude which was - "why should I have to pay my bills in the weekend, that my time".....

Anyway got me thinking, maybe there will be a few out there that will cry and moan. Some people that work heavy labour or say drive for a living should have to have a certain amount of breaks but I think too many people take "smoko" for granted!!

i often worked at least 4 hours without a break at bp.
on public holidays, that time would become 12 hours without a break. and, if i got rostered on with a certain dickhead, i would on the till for those entire 12 hours, which isnt good for my knees. gotta move around or else they cease up.
strangely enough, on those long days, working with that guy, i would develop a weak bladder and rush off to the loo every couple of hours. usually when i came out again, the wanker would be stuck with a queue of people so i could bugger off outside for a while.
i will never forget the day that it took me about 4 hours to eat one sandwich. he must have forgotten that i could see through the windows and he was standing there, hands on hips, waiting for more customers. wanker. i refused to work with him after that.

i dont mind loosing breaks, so long as i get time to move around as well. my boss at $2 shop has said that breaks will be adhered to over xmas, but there will be no room for movement. no more "just finish this chapter" or anything.

It'll only really affect those workers working for bosses who are total cunts - about half the population, probably.

And no hero stories about how you are so busy, every day that you don't get a chance for a break - even if it's a walk around the office/break for a cuppa/lunch. More fool you! Martyrs get short shrift in my book! If people can't stick up for themselves, they deserve what they get!

Exactly, Ive driven a tractor for a 13 hour shift with no breaks, piss-easy, more physically/mentally challenging jobs, cant even do 4 hours without a break.

No smoko at my work, we all dont really mind. If we want we can sod off for 10 mins with no questions asked... so no problem. In the UK I think smoko took about a quarter of our work time, and lunch was another quarter, but that was expected there.

I've been thinking about how to pay my rego if this acc shit comes into power. It'll mean no more BK mcdonalds or KFC anymore, growing more veges, shooting more deer. Its really getting to me. Especially knowing that the guys receiving the extra money are rich as fuck anyway
    Thats whats up.

Quite frankly mate, I dont see a problem. It is waay better for you and anyway, most 'average to low' income earners are already having to scrimp and save to survive. Some of the 'rich' people had to do that once too, so they could get rich you see!
