As an employer, i pay for the break (wages) & as a gesture of godwill i also pay for the staff smoko. So far since i have owned the business i have put over $13,000, (yep Thirteen Thousand dollars) worth of scones on the table, if you add the lost labour onto that, its probably a figure i could retire on, & nobody really notices.
Having said that, my staff turnover in that time has been virtually nil.
Employers can withold the break thing, but i wouldnt like to be them. Staff can retaliate silently & the only place you will notice it is on the end of year financials.

Lets see ..... 52 weeks a year less 4 weeks annual, is 48, less 11 days stat holidays - lets say 2 weeks. 46 weeks - at 5 days a week, 230 days of tea breaks. Lets say you only want to give up one a day.

Rego at $800 per annum. Divide that by 230 days, you want $3.47 in the hand per day.

You don't get your afternoon break deducted from your wages, So your cunning plan is a fail.

Of course,You could always ask to do overtime I suppose.

One of the better jobs I had was a full days pay for six hours work,as long as we worked without a break, And seeing as we started at 6am, we were done by lunchtime.

Some dude on the TV stated that if you lost a T-break the employer could pay for the time lost. Interesting as the work lost during a T-break is never compensated for.....

At my work guys seem to get away with not having an afternoon smoko, go home half an hour early and still get paid for 8 hrs..

I struggle with the maths on this one..

Prostitution is my ticket. I've even had to lower my hourly rate to $200.
