Rode over the hill tonight. Happy to report that Dunlop 208s are bloody good in the wet, freezing, slushy rain.
Harden up you softies. See you at the Flying Fish.

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I have a 1000km service on Tuesday to prepare for. I hope they clean my bike, because it is approaching Mangell6/Mathewt levels of filth. Well not really, but on my scale of bike cleanliness, it isn't looking good.
On another note, I stopped at Greytown supermarket to get some cream for the meringues, but there was only 2 litre bottles on the shelf. 2 litres of cream. Won't fit under the seat, or down the front of my jacket. 2 litres bottles. Blimey.

About 30 mins ago, the thunder here (Stokes Vegas) caused the windows to bend out slightly. It lasted so long, and so intensely that it could have been an earthquake, had you not seen the lightening. Our decks are now covered in think hail, which will not meltThe wind is howling constantly, with the only relief from the howl being the hiss of the rain on the roof, which becomes deafening at times...
So, what time you guys leaving then?I definitely won't be coming, even if it's a good day. Had a long ride over the rally, and I'm keen to have a day of doing nothing.
Speaking of the Fish, for those who have "fished" recently, how is the service? The last few times I've been there there have been a few mumbles(Not too sure if I like the surcharge either, my bowl lattes are becoming equal in price to fuel!). Still a good spot tho.
It's a little dodgy, and I hope they sort their attitude out. The newbies seem a little intimidated by us "bikers" and aren't particularly friendly, plus the coffee has been stink the last couple of times I've been there. Also the food, while still lovely, has decreased in portion size about 50%. I'm thinking of ignoring them and making Wild Oats the local.Originally Posted by StoneChucker
There are a couple of regular waitresses still working at Te Kai Moana, but that may not be enough to convince me to keep going there.
Start at Maccas Upper Hutt McCafe, ride past the "Fush" and flip them the bird, and stop at Wild Oats for lunch I reckon.

Wild Oats is a good'un. Nice to sit outside if the weathers good, and great indoor seating if it's too hot, or wet, etc...
I've always said, they'll miss the revenue from the bikers if we all left.

NOTE: Meetings times are 10am at U/Hutt Caltex (leave by 10:15) and 12:00 outside the Fish in Martinbrough. The idea is to have had lunch by the 12:00 meeting time. This might be a bit tricky depending on holiday hours but we'll see.
I suggest anyone going has a look here at 9am incase we all write it off as a bad idea. If Jim's over the hill then that's helpful since 90% of the riding will be over there so he'll have a better idea of how bad the weather is.

I'll make sure I post an update by 9am.

Our plans changed and we didn't go to Pukekohe after Manfeild, so we're at home now. However, the weather hasn't improved sufficiently for me to even consider coming on the ride - sorry Matt.
Last night's thunder and hail was some of the worst I've ever heard/seen.
Jim2 - I don't envy you riding over the hill in this weather. Take care.
Hope eveyone got back from National Park okay (I guess there's a thread, haven't gotten to it yet).

Being frustrated is disagreeable.
But the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.
We have heavy showers from the South, of diminishing frequency.
The weather forecast is for the rain to go away altogether by the afternoon, and Tuesday will be a clear, fine day.
Will post more at 9am.

It wont help you at al to know that the Bay of Islands is sunny with no cloudsmaybe it will fine up there later
dont break your cake
The last big shower never eventuated and the sun is shining again - however, the roads will be very wet, and it is likely that it will rain on you at some point during the day.
