It only takes one time to fuck up your life.
I read the piece as you suggested and quote: "I went out riding out of anger"

That whole accident? Has nothing to do with safety! It is all about "stupidity"

The motorcycle is incidental, could have been anything, car, rifle, pushbike, why blame motorcycling and safety equipment!

The guy was a complete incident all on his own! Keep things in perspective!

No shit. And guess what? Around NZ everyday there are going to be some motorcycle accidents. Guaranteed.

Now if BRONZ had gotten its way... and maybe 25% of the motorcycle accidents we have had since the 80's... and the others that will be happening tomorrow and the next day and the next... that the riders weren't wearing a helmet in... how do you think our ACC statistics would look now?

All I'm saying is that there are many people (and young guys would likely make up a large number of those) who don't give a second thought to the fact that they could end up looking like something that the local butcher might have in his shop window. Heaps of posts on kb have been made to the effect of "at least they died doing what they love", and maybe that is better than dying of cancer long and drawn-out, or emphysema. But I doubt many who have written themselves off in a bike accident would, if they could get a second chance, do it all again.....I'm certain they'd do things differently if they could, and live.
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...

Yea I know what you mean. It takes away some of the "romance" (if thats the right word?) of dying in a crash, and dying "with a smile on his face", when you see a split up sack of meat you wouldn't think is human that just happens to be wearing leathers, with a face where it's neck should be and legs 100m down the road.

Motorcycling was a "victim" here, "the bloody idiot went out and rode in anger" there is no protection equipment available against that level of stupidity!

Why should motorcycling be blamed for that?

With respect I think your response suggests you may have missed my point!

You are talking about mental health here, nothing to do with motorcycles!

The guy on trial here in NZ for killing that girl with his car, is no different than this guy on the motorbike!

The car and the bike were just the weapons of destruction chosen by madmen!

It could just as well have been something else, gun, knife, spade, fork, whatever!

My point is, these guy's were acting irrationally, they were sick and maybe they did need protection from themselves!

Making rules for "normal" motorcyclists or motorists because of "their" actions would be totally irrelevant.

WTF...??? He is just another typical shit for brains motorcyclist!

Every day in NZ there will be a motorcycle accident somewhere. Shit happens. If in 50% or even 25% of these accidents that are going to happen - the riders are not wearing helmets because they had the "right to decide"... we would see much more injuries as a result. Unnecessary and avoidable injuries.

    Actually.........

I'm starting to see another side to this arguement.

Darwin might not have been as silly as some think.

Unfortunately Darwinism only kicks in if you get removed from the gene pool before you've had a chance to reproduce.

Guys like that have usually fathered a child by 15.

State homes across the country are full of their offspring.
