In the morning warm up Spies ended up 5th fastest, 3rd Yamaha, and 3rd American!!
Stoner, Rossi, Edwards, Hayden and Spies top 5.
Then Lorenzo with Pedrosa down in 11th!

Spies will definitely be on Edward's Christmas card list.

Nothing too spectacular, just a "keep my nose clean, learn as much as I can" type effort from the young fella. I reckon he had a bit left in him, he certainly didn't have the bike as outta shape as he did the R1, just real smart riding with everything to lose and nothing to win.

Well fuck don't I feel like a dick.

In saying that, who would have predicted Edwards to be that consistant the whole race. I was interested in the copmentators comment re: Spies being concerned about the first half of the race as he had trouble coming to grips (no pun) with the outright grip of the new tyres.

Interestingly, come half race, he pulled finger and went good. I think there's probably three other riders in the field with the ability to get quicker as the tyres and handling goes off.

Well done Mr Spies, I'm looking forward to 2010 more than ever.

He did his fastest lap on the last lap...always a good sign!

I think he's smart enough to simply keep chipping away until he's at the pointy end...which I don't think will take all that long.

    Indeed...bring on 2010 already.

Mmmmmmm, subtle message for all in that. I was hoping for a real fight , but the new (smiling ) Stoner buggered that up.
Pedrosa looks great out in front , does he not?

haha, nice to see your boy happy, hope he maintains that when the pressure comes back next year ?
Rossi must be thinking 'oh christ, I've got to this again next year, with youngsters biting at my bum '? (and no more gay jokes ! ) lol

ps Spies finished exactly where I guessed, which is what it is, isn't it , just guessing..... Gaz.

    Rossi hands ultimatum to Yamaha

Rossi doesn't like too much competition in the same garage:

Or is it just more "Italian journalism"...

He really did say that. I download the BBC coverage and he said that in the pre-race interview. Cheeky eh.

Of course Stoner and Rossi in the same garage isn't much better is it... I guess Rossi would like to beat Stoner on the same bike to prove a point (especially after Stoner wins the championship next year).

But perhaps Stoner would give Ducati the "me or him" thing too. I can't see Ducati taking Rossi over Stoner if it came to it. Perhaps Rossi and Burgess should go to Suzuki and help them make a decent GP bike

Yeah, good guess - better than my 'rush of blood to the head' of top 5.

But hey 7th is pretty bloody terrific and no one would bet on Spies not being WC. Was Rossi turning in those sorta results in his early days??

Thank fook for that. I couldn't take any more.

Still a monster performance from Spies though after 2.5hrs on the bike. I can imagine him being on the podium next year. Once he got a sniff of Dovi's group it was like watching the Terminator.

Still if I picture Stoner and Rossi at Phillip Island, Godlike and really on it, I can't for the life of me see him being within pissing distance.

What did you think of Stoner's explanation..."was the grid stategy wot dun it"?

What is a grid strategy, anyway?
