Every now and then he does do some silly things that make me cringe, but let's face it, he doesn't (seem) to be doing anything underhanded that makes him money, he does GENUINELY seem to be acting in the best interests of his community, and, it seems the majority support him.

I see it as he is trying to make a stand against "pc overkill" legislature. That does nothing except seperate us all, cost millions (yes, millions) simply to change sign names.

To me it is farcical, the citizens don't want it changed (we all know the debate about why/why not), should that not be enough?

For example, the Maori name for Christchurch is "Otutahi" (sp), what would happen if the local iwi said, hey, screw that, we want it changed.

There are alot more people in Christchurch that would be quite irate, the same with Wellington, or Auckland (these aren't Maori names at all, and, it could be said that there are valid reasons for changing their names to the Maori terminology (what ever that is, I have no idea)

He is there to act the best interests of the people of his town. It seems like he is to me.

I don't agree with everything he says (far from it), but from what I read, when it comes to Wanganui, he is doing his job better than many other officials.

On the face of it he's doing what his community wants and I say good on him. If I were a ratepayer in Wongers I'd vote for the name Wanganui staying as it is with no 'H'. He's actually doing his job and standing up against what is a racist bunch of bullies.

You need to have a look at the local history, Wanganui is something of a center of strength for the separatist movement. Due to weak civil leaders in the past (thats you Chas you stupid bastard) they have caused significant upset in the town and had there way a number of times. The occupations and vandalism/destruction of public property are prime examples. And of course the siege mentality this placed on the city. This not only invited large numbers of gangs into town but professional protesters to whip up some ill will.

Since Mr Laws was elected much of these weeds found they no longer had a fertile shitpile to sow there misery so they took it National, Picked some weak shit out of the air (The H) and started to cry about it until it reached the upper levels (and we all know the Government just loves to open up and swallow for these little issues, after all they need the support of the undemocratic and racist Maori seats), and bingo, Democracy denied due to the skin colour of a tiny minority.

Fuck you NZ, Its no wonder your hard working sons and daughters go to Aussie. All this crap has a massive negative impact for the town.
