Dude you must be loaded then, free cars and bikes for your kids. Hope they respect that, and grow up to be independent, either as loaded sportsman or loaded businessman, with a missus or hubby who gets a text and starts dinner.

You'll find that these are the very same people who have to get the Government to pass a law before they'll stop texting while driving. "Wankers who refuse to accept responsibility for their own actions", I think you'll find they're called.

Thats a fair call but I'd just like to point out that society is to blame for all my faults...

Starting off as a kid we had no Electricity, no telephone, no car, sweet feck all actually!

I have therefore seen most of these new fangled things come into our world!

Mod-cons are just that, convenient, I think they are all great when used to advantage!

I watch our grandkids with their cellphones and just marvel at how usefull they are!

The "good old days" are now, enjoy the advances we have made and use the gizmo's to their full.

These are the lucky years but they may not last much longer, damn it! I say, "use it" before we lose it!

somewhere along the line the government ( all of them) decided they could TELL us how to raise our kids .. i think thats where you'll find the break

if i fucked up as a kid .. i got taken out back with the belt .. now if we take their playstation, we are violating their human rights

Yeah thats quite true. I often wonder what it'll be like 2 or 3 generations into the future from now. My kids, and their kids. Seems like the worlds going downhill from the 80's. I wonder if its worth me having kids (well my girlfriend)
    Thats whats up.

Have them anyway, kids are great to have around, well most anyway, values in kids are instilled by their parents not the Govt...enjoy them..

    err... can anyone tell me
WHO BUYS the phone in the first place or, who gives them the money to be ABLE to buy it...????
    your kids, you have control....!!!
or am i just too old to work this out....
or do i thank HC ???
I think ajturbo is questioning the need for a law to restrict cellphone ownership to 14+.

Why do we need a law? What about sensible parenting?

We have a spare family cell phone that is used when one of our kids (9 & 12) may need to contact us e.g. sports trips or a 'goodnight' text if they are with their Grandparents for the weekend.

Don't hate new technology - just be sensible. Everyone's sitiuation is different.

    Do it.

There will be times when you will want to deny ownership but these times are outweighed one million times over by the joy they will bring into your life.

In the meantime - make sure you keep practicing !!

we... i have to pull my head in ..

my son is now on his own... and i am worried

but as his "old man" what ever i say, it is all wrong and i don't understand..

fuck me do kids think we never went through what they are going through ( sure i didn't get caught..mostly..heheh)

so to be on the safe side i have decided that it is easier for me to move out than him....

and lets see him make his own mistakes, that i have tried to steer him away from...

and if they are real bad ones.. lets hope there is a KBer near by with a camera eh!! lol

The best you can hope to do for your kids is demonstrate to them, throughout their childhood and adolescence, your own values. Whether or not they adopt those values is entirely up to them...

More or less worked with my own kids although they have been times when I think my daughter took entirely too much notice of her father's failings...(like being a spendthrift and a wastrel...)
