Gen Y is having offspring. They had no control and so cannot apply control to their kids. This is the result.

I say give the little darlings as many phones as they want .....JUST ... gut the insides ... so its only a shell ......i suppose some of them might be mature enough, but what about the ones that are text bullied, cant handle it, and go on to self harm issues or eating disorders..i agree that they can be a very useful device as far as safety is concerned ....BUT.. they can be damaging and harmful in the wrong hands

Yeah and cell phone is much, much lighter than a Para 40 with 16 rounds in it - Fits in your pocket easer to.... maybe I should have saved this post to the firearm thread...

Fuck me you must have a good income!!, we were kids once also, did not need a cell phone as all in the town you grew up in knew who you were, there was no escape, your old man knew where you were, and he knew before you got home if you had got into mischief, and if you had you got the

Yep - I never could work out how he knew that almost every time. He used to tell me "I have my spies".

I think that's the key difference; we now live in big impersonal cities where few people know each other, kids have busy schedules, both parents are working, and the streets aren't safe enough for them to walk home when transport arrangements fall through. I grew up in a medium sized town and used to hoon off far and wide on my bicycle (and later on motorcycles) with no cellphone... 'cos they did not exist. Wouldn't let my kids do the same in Auckland though.

This is what the progress of the last 50 years has got us - poorer, more stressed, less safe, less community, more inequality. Unless you are part of the wealthy elite, of course - in which case you're richer financially.

    Sucks eh?
