I thought this would be handy in a separate link just for reference.
It's Nick reading out the ACC increases, and a QnA time with the media..

a few quotes from the ACC announcment video, some which show the drivers for the government (right or wrong)..
(PS - i'm not supporting him, but again, it's a view into his drivers, and where we can attack him best..)

    the main one first..
3 problems with pay as you go for ACC:

1 effectively passing on to future generate the cost of todays accidents.
2 dont provide price signals around saftey to employers as not paying full cost of accidents today.
3 enables ministers to promise extras to ACC but not have to fund it for 10 to 20 years.
4 IMPORTANT. with the introduction of international accounting reporting standards, if acc was not fully funded, those liabilities would still have to be reported on the crown accounts, and would have a substantive effect on the overall financial status of the government, effecting such things as interest rates and the like. so there are no easy options. pay as you go is a cop out, i think it's fair that in any one year, we pay for the accidents in that year.

5th posting thread containing this link...Mods are gonna love you lot

Nice summary dude, but still a crock

Pay as you go worked fine, still does, matters not who is paying it, its still equals out and is cheaper
I paid my Dads bill, my sons paying mine, his son will pay his, its the way it was and matters not at all, Woodhouse report, all of society being responsible for the rest, no fault, no blame
    Read it

I dont give a toss about international accounting standards, this is NOT a business, its a compensation rehabilitation and prevention Corporate
Its not supposed to be fully funded, never WAS to start with

The Nats broke it back in 91-93, and thats why its rooted now
Unfortunately our Doctors in NZ are too scared to say no to someone, when ACC will pay the bill

There are better ways to repair ACC, one is to start seriously auditing the actions of the doctors with long term beneficiaries off the ACC

Did you not hear NS claim 'its an insurance company' in one of his answers to the press?
Its already being set up for sale, whatever he tries to claim, its obvious
    Just ride.

Yeah, ok, sorry about the multiple posts.
Hey, i'm with you man, but thought a summary would not hurt so everyone can see where he is coming from so we can attack at the heart of his arguments.
Yep - we are a country, not a business ay..

Another great resource (probably one of the best) - showing history of ACC it's inception and reasons for it etc etc.

Just an interesting 'to note', according to "blood on the coal" page 35 near the bottom, it was a National government that had the final reading of the ACC bill, lead by prime minister of the time Jack Marshall (http://schools.look4.net.nz/history/.../john_marshall)

National appear to have been 'all for it' back then, so i wonder if the new nationals need to re-read there history a little...
(unless i have it all wrong, and i am skim reading so its on the cards)
