Darryn, word of warning...Otaki Back Roads...That Gravel on that tight Left Hander is still there, at least it was on sunday...Ya remember when we did it with Leviticus...left a few brown stains....So please caution every one
Well ya might do if ya go too fast round that corner...almost chewed me up and spat me out a while ago!
Sounds like an extra thick pair of undies is required!
Hey Darryn planning on a bit of gravel riding out the back of the power station aye....what was it big col said about abs and gravel?
if this is a goer tomorrow I'll be waiting at Ohau school, seems the best place looking at your map
Hi Richard
Not ever again intentionally (gravel ridding) although the small stretch on the Forgotten Highyway trip will be a exception
I've done the ride to the first dam (in the gravel) and gave up on reaching the second dam
Have a wee bit of advice for that area. If you by chance enjoy the environment and happen to leave your visor open to take a little more nature into your life beware of the occasional wasp that decides that landing on your helmet and crawling inside might be a good idea. Then two things go though your mind. Hitting the picks doing 60km's in gravel and ripping off your helmet dancing around like a fairy was one of those strange logical thoughts that quickly pass through my brain. The other was to flex every mussel in my body to become super strong and hard which will deflect the impending sting below my eye. Luckily for me it decided to instead craw back out at which time a sonic boom was created as I closed my visor with speed
Thought the power station might be a place of interest and there was a back road out that way also
Catch ya at the Ohau School I'm guessing around 6:55
It will be interesting to see what the weather does later today. Been wet here in Pauatahanui so far. Very low rain clouds.
Is it still on tonight it looks ok from Wellington but is it ok up the Kapiti Coast ?
I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people...I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.
Ok here's the update for tonights ride
Just come back from Otaki and its dry there until I hit Waikanae
Checked in with Mark in Levin at 4:55pm and its dry there
Checked Palmerston Norths airport webcam and its dry there
Thinking once we are clear of Waikanae we should be right
So all good for tonight's ride
Catch the keen 6:30pm there![]()
Dame I do not think I can make it to start point by 6:30pm, was looking forward to this one, hope you have a dry ride.

Shame you missed it mate. It was a good ride and some great backroads. Sadly it was a fairly wet ride despite the great efforts by our forecast researchers pre-departure. I for one was soaked through by the time I got home well after 10pm.
Like Darryn said, some of those roads would be fabulous in dry weather.
I bet Im not the first person on KB to put wet weather gear on after its rained, Caught out big time, Not as bad as some though. I heard mention that wets were at home in wardrobe. I immediately felt much better.
Midwives. [Helping people out]
Considering the conditions 7 hardcore riders turned up
Even after the best of planning we got slammed with rain between Shannon and Himitangi
Some can get depressed others can make use of certain situations
Cam decided he would make use of the time and wash his t shirt during the ride by leaving his vents open on his jacket
Mark decided to wash himself and his iphone although it seemed to be deeply asleep and wouldn't wake when we stopped for a drink afterwards (I think its on its way back to recovery)
I decided to wash the insides of my boots by leaving my leggings tucked into them and thinking the slipstream will hold off the water (I was wrong - again)
You just can't beat experience and boy doesn't wet roads change your riding style - I think most of us experience a slip or slips somewhere on the ride but we all survived
Nice back road up that way (Shannon via Okuku Road - Opiki) and looking forward to trying it again in the dry
Do you always tuck your pants into your socks Darryn?????????????????
Yeah it was a balls-out ride with that weather. I had one front end slip and two rear end slides. Great to get my washing done though.
