    GPX 250 tank design fault

    I generally kike all things kawasaki but the desighn of the GPX250 tank has me stumped.
    On both sides of the tank but particularly the left side theres a little "pocket" of tank that hangs down below the fuel tap. Of course its the perfect pooling place for water and general nastyness and being its below the tap the water has nowhere to go.
    Every time the bikes parked the water starts doing its corrosive best to eat its way out through the tank.
    My advice to anyone with an older GPX
    Toss 300ml of meths in ya tank when the fuels getting low once every few months--or youll end up doing a grind and weld up job on it.

    Oh yes the tank has to be some of the worst designing ever...
    For starters the fairing bolts onto the tank, if you forgot to use the spacers or use a longer bolt you can puncture the tank underneath without any effort at all. Fuel coming out the fairing mounts mmmmm.
    Also the part where the tank mounts onto the frame is useless as well, started leaking around there on my old rusty '88 tank as well as on my new but crashed '07 tank.

    But even though my old '88 tank was rusted to hell on the inside it still hadn't rusted through where you said.

    Possibly not unusual for these pockets on modern bikes. I read a economy test a while back - they drained each tank and added X litres to each. One bike got the worst rating only because of the design that allowed over a litre of fuel to remain in the tank totally unusable.

    It appears that they did not bother to recalculate the results for this bike based on actual fuel used ....... lazy buggers, I suspect that they worked for ACC.

    Took the tank off for the first time in the weekend and thought it was kinda strange that they bolted directly on...

    Also the right hand side pocket doesn't get used unless you run it down to reserve and tilt the bike over.

    Thankfully my bike doesn't appear to have any rust in the tank and i keep it in the garage so i should be fine. *fingers crossed*

    That's the second reserve tank!
