Pffft what a totaly ignorant statement

Labour made it possible for me to get out of a truck cab (what fuckin benefit?) and get a real edumacation like the one my parents were unable to afford after the 'bursary' scheme was fucked over by the Nats back in the late 80's, and replaced with high interest 'student mortgages' by Jim Bolger and his cronies

Interest free student loans, thanks Aunty Helen you helped lift my growing family to just above the poverty line by getting me an IT qualification

Dont like a caring society, go live in the states dude

And Hone, well he can kiss my lilly white Kiwi ass, its OUR seabed not his

oh yeah, paid my 19 grand of student loan off last year
    Just ride.

Yeah? So what is "Working for other people's families" if not an attempt to get the middle classes addicted to the government dole-out?

You started a family before you could afford it??

Why should the general (tax paying) population pay for your education/zero interest loan?

    SOMEONE is paying the interest.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

I've realised that I owe an apology to Hone Harawira. Apparently no one has told him that we don't have the same relationship with our mothers as he has with his.

    ya think?

despite the propaganda; ACC over the last few decades has been one of the most cost efficient schemes in the western world.

i guarantee that once it is privatised, it will start to rise and within a few years will be considerably more expensive than ACC is now

we are as usual, too close to see the comparison.

a bit like the 2007 research paper on health care across the developed world: NZ rated 2nd or 3rd best and the ONLY thing the Yanks were better at was allowing the mega rich to have the latest gadgets: and their sysytem (private/corporate) cost more than double.

Other good schemes were the UK's and the usual scandinavian systems.

We may bitch and moan and that's not a bad thing as constant improvement is essential, but the fact is we get a hell of a lot for our money.

Given that the corporate/capitalist model the National party seems to be moving towards regarding health care, this article would seem to be quite relevant. Even though they spend twice as much as we do, the yanks get a terrible system: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Cont...can-Healt.aspx

Anything that rated the NHS as "good" obviously had a fundamental flaw in its methodology somewhere...

For who? Me or the people I've been subsidising?

And before you launch into the usual diatribe... let start by looking at my zero claims and contrast that with the ACC I've been paying in vehicle registrations alone

but you'll not explain that to us will you

that's a comparitive study unlike the inward focused contempt for a system when a person lives within it

we always notice lots of things we think are hugely bad about our own systems; but look outward with unrealistic rose coloured lenses

and tomorrow when you have that $100,000 accident? when the litigation industry hikes your costs anyway as in yankland

remember; getting rid of ACC opens the door to the litigation nightmare

unlike yourself; i've don't really begrudge paying for something I may never use: I can see the far greater benefits to society through my own self interest

    Much mana to this man.

Maori Leader Rejects Harawira Apology as “Embarrassing” and issues his own apology
Ngapuhi Leader and senior relative to Hone Harawira, David Rankin, says he is embarrassed by the apology the MP has given.

“Harawira has disgraced our iwi with his gutter language, and has casued more racial division in New Zealand society than any other single person in a generation”, says Mr Rankin.

“As an MP, we expect certain standards, and instead, Mr Harawira has dragged down all of Ngapuhi to his level. I, and other kaunatua, are deeply ashamed, especially for the offence it has caused our Pakeha brothers”, says Mr. Rankin.

Mr Rankin, as the senior member of Mr. Harawira’s hapu, has today formally apologised to Parliament, Ngapuhi, and the people of New Zealand, for his relative’s outburst, and will be approaching him in the next few weeks to remind him that his priority as MP is to focus on his work in Parliament and the electorate, and not to be sidetracked by opportunities for personal gain.
