Bastard! I've come over all envious like.

I hope the weather holds for you and that you (all) have a great day!

It looks like it could be a coolish ride, but the overall forecast inland is for clear skies. Mrs J has already got in the woodstock, and there is a bottle of Chevas Regal just waiting to have the top cracked open...

I went over the Crown Range on Thursday night on my bike and it was just about half in roadworks through the Cardona Valley.
Loose chipseal and stop/goes all the way through.
I'm prolly going to Cardrona for a look today for work so I'll give you a report tonight.

Saturday a.m. is Lawrence 1/4 mile (no bikes so I'll take the Mistral) Sunday is Bluff Food and Oyster festival that C.B. and I intend attending and Sunday night is a mate 40th birthday in Invercargill so it is a slim chance we'll get to the Crown Range loop.

I was feeling envious, but sitting at home in Dunedin now, surrounded by over an inch of snow / hail, I think I'm in the best place for the day.

It's a great ride around the Crown Range loop, a great mixture of smoothies and twisties, with lots to see. Hopefully one more time before I winterise the bike........ .

Sitting "here", knowing that what's blowing past the window has come from "there", all I can say is "Brrrrrrrrrrrr!"

Just back from the 40th, great do and mostly bikers ( the 40 year old has a MINT Buell plus a slew of scoots down to an Ariel he's rebuilding).

1/4 mile not good - even taking off in second resulted in loads of wheel-spin and mid 14 sec. times!!

Sunday morning we had snow on the ground at home, but only about 2 cm. I rang the Queenstown police station at 09:30 for an update on road conditions, and heard that at that stage no-one had been able to get over the Crown Range, so you guessed it, the bike stayed in the shed.

Yesterday, a totally different story. Still patches of snow on the road, but the air was nice and refreshing, and what fantastic scenery. Everything was crystal clear and postcard perfect. The only downside was following the holiday makers in their cages home from Wanaka. And there were marked police cars every few kms.

This would have to rate as one of the best rides in NZ.
