King of Ruapuna, round 2 Clubmans

Well since know one else is game I'll give it a shot,

I had my second race at Ruapuna yesterday, I am so stoked on it I had a great day Thanks to BikerN1mpho,Jay Racer, Sister echo, Sketchy Racer.

I have done quite a few track days and I love roadriding so it took ALOT of badgering from Jay and Rach to rip my pride and joy apart, drill a few holes in it and get it ready for racing, But I finally did it and to be honest it didn't take much, just someone who has done it before(cheers Jay)

One thing about track days at Ruapuna is you get a transponder which is awesome
Me having never had one before, My first day on the track I clocked a 1.51 flat my goal is to better that. Having a transponder has given me something to work toward rather than just hooning around

So up at 630 load up and at the track at 800 Sign in

And I have to say Canterbury club put on a great day. There were loads of big smiles everywhere

Went out for practise and kinda crusied around to get the feel of the bike again, Only being my third day at the track
and after watching the video footage of my last trackday there, my main focus was taking a completely different line on the sweeper leading onto the straight. Practise gave me a chance to see how that would feel.

    Race one.
After being to lazy to walk up and see where I was meant to line up and having no tyre warmers after the warm up lap I saw a hole in the grid and started on the third row and gave it a go, I had a shit start too much wheelie and couldn't seem to let the bloody clutch out fast enough after seeing Jaden in the distance I thought that would be the last I would see of him But I managed to keep him in the distance for about 2 laps but as soon as I lost focus and missed a gear or 3, he was gone.

I kinda settled in about 5th or 6th and just tried not to fall off. I did the dipper alot better in this race than I ever have.I had a big slide coming out of it and kinda slid into bump which felt great!!

Anyway going into the last corner I had a bike right behind me, I lead into the corner and he got me on the exit he was on the same bike as me but I was slowly gaining on him towards the line. We crossed the line together and I'm still not sure who beat who because I gather he was junior and didn't feature on the score sheet. I came about 5th on track but 3rd on the score sheet. My best lap was 1min48.3

Hey owner, we were the bright orange and black bikes.
pete on the sv #141 (he is now moving up to pro-twin)
And my 15 yr old boy Anthony was on my 675 #301 for the first time too (he also races RG150)
He isnt up to Jaydens pace yet.....but it wont be long!
it was a huge clubbie field this weekend and barring a few misunderstandings some good racing too.
Quallman.it was first lap of last f3 race......... just one of those racing incidents.

Pro Twin will be fun for him he can give Jay the hurry up ,
Yeah I'm not up to Jadens pace either. I really enjoy it though and I am thinking now turn one could be third gear??lol if I'm game enough. Pothole is awesome!! great corner

Jeez I hope I wasn't involved in the misunderstandings. Unless someone tells me I'm doing something wrong I wouldn't know because I haven't done it before. But then I guess everyone is in that boat in clubmans.

the misunderstandings were related to the holding area senario after the hairpin on last lap.......... dont think there were any on track.
i haven,t ridden a thou at ruapuna but would have thought T1 would be 2nd gear (it is on my 675) to carry 3rd you would have to run through the turn at an pretty hot pace to keep enough revs up to gain good drive out of the turn.
Im sure a thou rider will correct me if i am wrong.

I used 3rd 4th and 5th only in my day on 1000, and won a shit load of races there by doing that.

1000 have so much Tourque, that you can use that to go forward, instead of side ways, as 2nd gear and so on will do

I always ran 2 teeth different on the rear to Mr Stroud

3rd, 4th ,5th eh shaun...thats interesting. obviously the gearing made a big difference, and you being somewhat lighter than stroudy.
Proves there is more than one way to "skin a cat'.
Good luck at nats this year...... we will be there with the 150 in the sth Is supports. picking up tips for the next seson when the young one moves up to pro-twin.
