No neutral light and bike won't start. zx7r

Have a 2002 zx7r. Have no neutral light and the bike wont start with the stand down.Bike is definetly in neutral. Bike will start with stand down and clutch lever in. When the lever is released and idling the bike cuts out. Bike will continue to idle if the stand is up and clutch lever is released. Have tested the join were the neutral switch comes into the fuse box and indicates there is power there.
The bulb in the dash is working (swapped out with working high beam indicator bulb)still no illumination. Have power on one side of the bulb circuit but not on the other. Have checked all the fuses I can find and they are all sweet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is sometimes a relay and a diode to handle the logic in those two circuits. I'd hunt them out and replace them both and see if that did anything.

Thanks guys well try all you have posted when work commitments allow. The bike is still in bits so i could trace the wires. BMWST you are correct part of the electrical system thinks it is always in gear wether in neutral or not.

That's where I'd start - ground the neutral switch wire & see if it still cuts when the clutch is engaged.
