Should be able to clearly see the spark...

    pull plug from engine

    put lead back on plug

hold touching plug against block - need the electrical contact

should get fat blue spark when engine turns over

dont know the 250RS - is it one plug or two - if two check both

    no spark suggests
1: bad timing (if points - mayebe closed up, or dead CDI if electronic)
    2: bad coil
    3: bad lead
    4: bad plug

What state is the plug? shoudl be pretty clean and not covered in oil or soot

hey cheers for your suggestions previous owner a mechanic heard my predicament and came and took a look. found out choke had come loose so wasn't letting enough(if any) fuel into the engine. redid the screw and now purrs like a cat =)
