    Hospital Service

I've just got back from spending a week in Hamilton whilst my darling wife had a hip replacement. Haven't had much contact with the hospital system for quite some time and with hospitals having received some bad press recently (when do they ever get GOOD press), I wondered how things would go.

Well, I have to say that from the surgeon through to the nurses, physio, orderlies and tea ladies; the service, attitudes and support was absolutely faultless and I'm genuinely humbled by their dedication and good humour.

How they keep their patience with the abuse they cop from some of the Friday and Saturday night casualty morons, I simply don't know. To all of you linked to health services, my admiration knows no bounds.

I've spent a fair bit of time in and out of hospitals over my 24 years and have always found them to be great. I think its mainly papers trying to sell papers with doom and gloom stories thats the cause of all the negative feeoings towards hospitals.

Yep it's a personal thing re how hospitals go.Some moan about shit food, nurses, etc, but they generally are moaners in real life anyway.
My experience is bloody great, when you're given 17 days to get your head around major surgery(and life changing)having excellent nurses helps, and the health care staff are brilliant(they're the cleaner, water changer, occasional coffee getter)deserve medals, and decent pay.And 6 years later back in and the stay equally good.Mind you the nurses who have difficulty communicating with patiants is an issue, but they have great humour. And both times stay was 10days,and 8days,in New Plymouth and Wellington respectively.

My recent hospital experience put me off food. Sorry, but waking up after anaesthetic and finding a piece of roast chicken with boiled cabbage looking like something the dog had found, just wasn't appealing at all. The lid came off and went straight back on.
Thankfully my body didn't want much food for the time I was in there, and I lived through the experience.
The nurses, tea women and whomever else I had contact with were fine. Most of the time there was a blur, but everyone was nice. Some did give the impression they were understaffed and so would rush through doing whatever they had to do, but I've no idea how many patients per nurse they had.
Jokes about hospital food still seem valid to me
