Down here we DO get Asian drivers that don't know about two-lane roads, yellow lines, speed limits, gravel roads - these guys are the tourists that rental car companies hand the keys to without explaining the road rules in N.Z., the poor buggers don't stand a chance - they have done most of their driving in grid-locked cities or multi laned freeways.
The dudes from Europe are almost as bad - they keep left as long as they remember or see other cars on the road but lookout in the back country roads, they pull out of picnic spots and drive on the right-hand side of the road until they hit someone (or nearly do) - you would think the steering wheel location would be a good hint they ain't at home.
Tour companie don't help either - they jack up a three day tour of the South Island and list about 40 quadjillion scenic spots that they tell the tourist "you better not miss" this or that so they scortch their campervan around the place like they are in the Le Mans 24 hour - only with no relief driver.
Just my casual observations![]()

My thoughts
1) if our licencing system was better ALL our drivers would probably be a bit more alert and able to avoid accidents. I see and have to avoid plenty of dodgy drivers, male, female, white, asian, polynesian... you name it.
2) If your local bakery isn't doing good pies go find another one! I have been to some mighty fine Asian bakeries with some well wicked pies. If you don't know where to start, get yourself out to Muzza's Pies in Howick. Now owned by an Asian dude (The original Muzza has gone to set up much needed shops in Aussie where they really don't know what a good meat pie is) but made to the same original high standards.
(As much as I'd love to comment on racism, the far shallower topic of a decent meat pie is much more intriguing to me so I'll stop right there)

I have been watching this thread and my initial thoughts when I read the start of it haven't changed.
A few years ago, when NZ wasn't that big, I lived at the Mount. OK it was more than a few, like the early seventies. Anyway we always complained about the tourists that would come to the Mount from far off distance places, like Wellington, during the holiday (tourist) season.
We didn't mind there females coming up from Wgtn, but those others that they brought with them, they hung around together, (like gangs) annoyed the shit out of us locals. Some even had the ordacity (sp?) to stay permanently.
Roll on a few years and this thread is about the same thing. We now have a 'global' country and in our little 'town' we have people who come from other 'towns' and 'cities' to visit us and even stay.
Some things never change, like name calling, expressing an opinion, having a really good rant, although in society now all of this seems to be frowned upon because you might offend someone.
I have always decided who and what offends me, no-one else can do that for me.
Oops ranting, getting way off topic, we were talking about PIES!!!
How about a ride through-out the country visiting the "official pie" winners that get announced each year.
Or
we could have a pie shop crawl, pub-crawls are frowned upon for some reason, and the KB'rs could list the names and addresses of their favourite pie shop and we could visit them all and have a pie in each one.
Mike
PS Wasn't the MotoGP entertaining (250s)
Finally were starting to make some sense. Now how do we get a list of the best pie shops in the north island??
Although - I dont want any of those "foreign" pies !!![]()
Not even with yours!!!
I suppose it's time for my two cents worth. My name is aff-man and I..... am a foreigner. Yes i am a saffa. And i know all about racism my history is full of it, i also know about a good mince and cheese pie. I think it's all based on statistics the two main groups of people i have problems on the road with are asians and old people. And majority like 90% are women. Does this make me a racist, a sexist a bigot even ,no, and why, because the statistics prove that these groups of people are who i have the most trouble with when on the roads. As to pies well i have had some decent pies in saffa-land but nothing beats a good mince and cheese pie made almost anywhere in nz.![]()
Although - I dont want any of those "foreign" pies !!
Bought one of them "Mrs Mac" pies - made me ill. then I saw ,they're made in f**kin Perth!!!!
Thank god Muzza's gone to Aussie to teach them how to make pies!

So i take it you are continually trying to avoid old Asian women?
