Letter to Hone Harawira

Dear Mr Hone Harawira

I would like to thank you for clarifying your view of European people and their impact on the lives of Maori within New Zealand.
As one of the white "Motherf**ers" you referred to in a recently released email, I would like to point out a couple of things, and ask a couple of questions

· my grandparents immigrated from Holland, Italy and Greece to settle in NZ. Neither country has had any treaty now or in the past with Maori, nor has either country directly initiated, participated in or perpetuated any attack on Maori.

· Have you, or your direct whanau ever had a job that WAS'NT funded by tax payers either directly through the government or its agencies?
· Are you aware that 50% of tax in NZ is paid for by only 11% of the population? And that of this 11% of top payers 98.2% ARE NOT MAORI? They are predominantly the white "Motherf**kers" you seem to despise
· Are you aware that the life expectancy of Maori in NZ has more then doubled during the 170 odd years of colonisation?
· Are you aware that had the White "Motherf**s" not come here, you would probably be dead by now

I am acutely aware that there is nothing I can say or present to you that will change your narrow, racist, hateful mind, so I won't waste my time or yours trying.

What I will say, is that I no longer wish to provide any tax to support the Maori of NZ. As this support is not appreciated I will be happy to let you fend for yourselves. I will also support returning all land and resources to Maori where clear confiscation by white "Motherf**kers" can be demonstrated through the courts. However it is only fair to ask that the cost of development of these lands and resources be deducted from any payout

I fully endorse Maori determining their own future, provided they take on board all the associated costs.

As a white "Motherf**kers I would like to charge Maori for my part in funding the cost of:
· housing the current Maori prison population
· providing social welfare to Maori as well as funding the enormous cost of family violence which is mostly perpetrated by Maori against Maori
· providing western developed health care to Maori

· holding iwi, hikoi, blessings, curses, removing taniwha, retrieving heads and all the other mysticism that white "Motherf**kers" currently fund

Having done some quick calculations I believe that the Maori of New Zealand currently owe me and my wife $74,529.46 for the last 10 years.

Please let me know where to send the invoice

That is absolute classic. Ina nutshell....Don't suppose there would be any chance i could get in on this. Could do with a bit of a leg up form someone to fund a new bike.

So if I have been working for 26 years then they owe me $186,323.65

I wouldn't send that.

That's exactly the kind of reverse racism he expects to receive and will point out to anybody within earshot — he'd be rubbing his prejudiced hands together. He'd turn around straight away and say, "If we hadn't signed the Treaty of Waitangi, you and your immigrant family wouldn't be here rubbing our noses in our poverty and all its related social problems that you caused us." Because that's what he thinks no matter what.

The way to change Harawira and his ilk, is to embrace and be proud of the positive in Maori culture. By all means, demonize the culture of "the world owes me something for nothing, and all my problems are someone else's fault," but recognise that that culture exists not only in sick parts of Maoridom but very much also in middle NZ, across many ethnicities.

I understand your outrage over Harawira's now infamous email, and yes, Maori receive a lot more help and support from the NZ tax payer, and yes, in any other country in the world he would have been out on his ass so fast it wasn't funny, so your points do resound — but do you really want to play his divisive little game?
Me, I'd rather not.

If you really want to piss off Harawira, ignore him.

If nobody listens to him, he has no power. Just like this post of mine — if you ignore it, it has no power to influence you one way or another.
